The G-8 bring together ministers responsible for various portfolios to discuss issues of mutual or global concern. Which are the member countries of G-8?
They are mostly the developed countries or industrialized countrise. Initially 6 members were there when created in 1975 the members then were USA, UK, Japan, France, Italy and Germany. On new member as Canada was added in 1976 and Russia added herself to this group in 1997 making it G8
India is the part of extended G20, the G8 was extended to G20 on the request of Canadian PRIME minister Paul Martin. India is the only member in the South Asia.
It was proposed to extend it to G8+ 5 countries( BRIC+MEXICO), from the Pittsburg summit 2009 , it was proposed to replace it with G 20. In the 2010 final G8 meeting was held and it was finalized that next time it will be G20 (19 nation+ 1 EU). The meeting at 2011 is expected to be under French leadership and all the 20 countries will come forward for talk.
