Fudan University School of Management

Briefing of the School
Long history of business teaching. As China's first higher education institution to establish the educational system of Business Administration, the century-old Fudan University created the business discipline in as early as 1917, and later set up the School of Business in 1929. But it had to suspend the education of management in the 1950s, when new waves of restructuring hit all the universities and colleges nationwide. When the country started to implement reform and open-up policies, Fudan Univesity took a lead to resume the education of management, and started to enroll undergraduates for Management Science in 1977, and later established Department of Management Science in 1979 and School of Management in 1985.
Multi-level system of School education. The past two decades have witnessed a great success of development in School of Management, and now it has eight departments, 19 cross-discipline research centers/institutes, three laboratories, one development center for senior managers and one management consulting firm. Overall speaking, School of Management at Fudan University is now structured to be an international-level business school. The School has nine Ph.D. Degree programs, 16 Master's Degree programs, two professional Master's Degree programs of MBA/EMBA and MPAcc, and three mobile stations for post-doctoral research on Management Science, Business Administration and Applied Economics respectively.
Highly competent faculty. Ended in November of 2007, the School boasts of 131 faculty members, among whom are 44 full professors (including 36 instructors for Ph.D. candidates), and 48 associate professors. 85% of School professors hold Doctor's Degrees, including 22 who were granted diplomas from overseas and account for 17% of the total faculty members.
Outstanding academic research potential. As scientific research achievements are an important yardstick of judgment on a school's construction and development, as well as on the buildup of faculty team, the School of Management has attached great importance on scientific research from a strategic point of view. Several years of hard work has led to great success in various research areas, with some being well-reputed both home and abroad, as well as a long list of upper-level academic papers, theses and patents, an array of outstanding leaders in all kinds of academic research, and dozens of high-quality research teams.
Incubator for talents. Every year, so many people throng to the School of Management for further study, and they say that the School is reputed for its high-standard schooling and wonderful education environment, which accordingly lays a foundation for incubating manager-elites one after another. By the end of 2006, the school has a population of 1,039 undergraduates, over 2,000 Master's Degree candidates (including 1,500 MBA and EMBA students), and 278 Ph.D. candidates. Meanwhile, the number of School alumni has reached more than 18,000.
Extensive scale of global cooperation. The School is always actively exploring possibilities of international exchanges, and has built up cooperation and exchange programs with dozens of world's-top universities from such countries and regions as USA, Japan, Germany, France, Norway, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, and Taiwan region. The School joined in the organization of Partnership in International Management (or PIM) in late 2006, which helps boost the School's influence globally and bring more and more opportunities to our students in terms of overseas student exchanges.
Deeply rooted school-enterprise collaboration. As early as 1992, the School established Fudan Business Consulting Co. Ltd., backed by School faculty and working to provide full-scale management services for multinationals, state-owned enterprises and all levels of governmental organizations. Like the School has done tremendous contributions to the society, it has also received effective support from society in return. Many famous enterprises both home and abroad have stretched their support in different ways to the School, including MasterCard International, Citibank, Starr Foundation.

Re:Emerging asia empowering MBA

Emerging asia empowering MBA

Why the S3 Asia MBA?
Asia will be the focus of the much of the world's economic and political activity in the 21st century. Its rapid development has led to increasing complexity of doing business in a region bounded by vast differences in economic, business, cultural, institutional and socio-political conditions. Increasingly, there is a growing need for a pan-Asian MBA program offering in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of conducting business in Asia. However, few universities in Asia have the research and teaching capabilities to offer programs that provide the depth of theoretical and practical education required by managers. Hence, the non-customized standard MBA was until now, the primary formal management education and training tool available in Asia.In response to such needs, the School of Management, Fudan University, Korea University Business School and the NUS Business School have launched the S3 Asia MBA, beginning August 2008.

How does an MBA program jointly operated by three leading universities in Asia offer an unprecedented edge in top-notch business education? Three reasons exist. The three schools have the best understanding of Asian economies; have established world-class MBA programs through accreditations and joint programs; and possess the faculty trained in top business schools around the world. The integration and collaboration between these three leading business schools in Asia will offer worldwide competitiveness in a world-class Asian business education.
The S3 Asia MBA program aims to meet the growing and diverse needs and expectations of students, employers, faculty, alumni, universities and governments by preparing students for senior leadership positions in major business locations in Asia and the world. The S3 Asia MBA will provide graduate students the opportunity to receive a high quality business education offered jointly by three leading Universities in three different Asian countries. This program will combine the unique strengths of the three leading business schools into an exceptional MBA program taught in three of the most sophisticated and rapidly developing cities in the world.

Tri-Semester Curriculum
Three semesters have to be completed under the S3 Asia MBA program. Students will start their first semester in Shanghai and spend their second semester in Seoul, finishing the last semester in Singapore. Students who intend to get a degree from Fudan need to register for a fourth semester to write their master thesis.
The S3 Asia MBA requires rigorous study, creativity and imagination, analytical thinking and teamwork. The curriculum is carefully designed to allow students to continually build on concepts and skills learned in earlier courses as they proceed through the program.
The credit hour for each course is aligned with the teaching system of the respective university; course credits will be directly accepted by the other S3 Asia MBA partner universities.
Curriculum Structure
Semester 1 (in Fudan) Semester 2 (in KUBS) Semester 3 (in NUS)
Orientation Marketing Management Corporate Strategy
Managerial Communications Operations Management Asia Pacific Business
Data Models and Decisions Corporate Finance Elective 1
Managerial Economics Business Ethics Elective 3
Financial Accounting Management of Information Systems Field Trip
Organizational Behaviour Business in Korea and Japan Advanced Business English (compulsory for FUSM students only)
Business in China Field Trip
Field Trip Basic Korean or English conversation (optional)
Basic Chinese (optional)
In addition to the regular curriculum, the S3 Asia MBA also offers a range of seminars and workshops conducted by external training consultants aimed at developing S3 Asia MBA students into effective managers. MBA Luncheons, an extracurricular program, brings business leaders on campus to share the latest developments in their fields, or the secrets behind their success.
Double Degree, One Certificate
Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded dual MBA degrees – a unique attraction of the S3 Asia MBA program. Each qualified candidate will be granted a “double degree” consisting of their 'home' degree, plus one of two host degrees based on his/her own preference. An Asia MBA program certificate signed by three deans from FU, KU and NUS business schools will be awarded.
Note: A student has to declare a preferred host degree at the beginning of the semester, since formal admission from the host school is required. To receive a Fudan host degree, students need to register for an additional semester to write a master thesis.
Faculty
A key strength of the S3 Asia MBA is the strong research track record, excellent teaching capabilities and significant industry experience of its faculty members. FU, KU and NUS business schools are renowned for producing top-tier research in Asia. Our faculty members create new knowledge, models and frameworks that are applied in the context of Asia and beyond, and are widely recognized for innovative research and case development. Furthermore, our faculty are equipped with effective teaching skills that provide rigorous education set against environmental changes in the world economy, and directly reward strong classroom performance. The S3 Asia MBA faculty members are also chosen for their extensive industry experience and outstanding track record in the businesses and governments of Asia and worldwide.

The expertise of each of our prominent faculty is synthesized and integrated to form a united, world-class educational resource. Study with World-Class Faculty and the Brightest Fast-Track Managers in China

Washington University in St. Louis and Fudan University offer a Shanghai-based version of the Olin Business School's highly successful EMBA program. Students enrolled in this world-class, 18-month program attend courses once per month, a schedule designed to minimize students' time away from work.
In Shanghai, monthly classes take place on the 4th floor of Fudan Management School's recently constructed Starr Building, in a state-of-the-art classroom and team breakout rooms configured specifically for our executive students. The program culminates with a two-week capstone session at Washington University's Charles F. Knight Executive Education Center.
Graduating students receive an MBA degree from Washington University and an Education Certificate from Fudan University, which is recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Graduates are full-fledged alumni of both Washington University and Fudan University.
