Patna, May 25: Bihar government today decided to set up an overseas cell to facilitate posting of skilled manpower from the state to Australia, Singapore and other foreign shores, announced Sushil Kumar Modi.
State deputy chief minister on his return from a 10-day tour to Australia and Singapore said Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and some other south Indian states have already set up such cells ensuring substantial employment of skilled manpower in Australia and other countries.
Modi told reporters that the Singapore government has shown keen interest to develop Nalanda University, as a world education institution. “The Singapore prime minister, Lee Hsien, promised all cooperation possible to develop Nalanda in course of his meeting with me,” he added.
The deputy chief minister said he would soon meet the Governor R.S. Gavai to request him to ensure an arrangement wherein students from state universities would be able to ravel to Australia and vice-versa on exchange programmes.
Modi said his visit has added strength to Bihar Foundation, constituted to galvanise Bihar people across the world and enable them to participate in the state’s development process. “I appointed Umashankar Kesri, Sanjay Pandey and S. Rai, as the Bihar Foundation coordinators at Melbourne, Canberra and Singapore in course of my visit to the places,” he said.
Modi added that he learnt a lot from Singapore, which has earned a lot of expertise in urban planning. “We can learn to develop our urban fringes through an exchange of ideas, experts and cooperation with Singapore,” he admitted.
