When it comes to receiving real life leadership learning, who else could be a better guide than the senior management team from GE. Mr. Joe Mastrangelo, Vice President – Turbo machinery, GE Oil & Gas along with his a rich Q&A session which featured a gamut of different questions addressed colleagues visited DMS, IIT Delhi to by the budding leaders at DMS take session on leadership. regarding leadership and its essence in the GE way of life. Visit by Mr. Manvinder Singh Banga, Ex-CEO HUL
Mr. Manvinder Singh Banga visited IIT Delhi to share his experience as an Industry expert. Mr. Manvinder Singh Banga is one of the distinguished alumni of IIT Delhi. He is President Foods, Home and Personal Care (HPC), Unilever. Mr. Banga is in India to receive the Padma Bhushan Award. Mr. Banga shared various instances about his life. He talked about various managerial and leadership aspects and also need of thinking about environment and global warming. The session was very interactive and thought provoking which will surely help in real life in future.
Media Conclave 2010
Media Conclave organized by DMS has been attracting huge attention of people from various spheres be it Corporate houses, advertising agencies or Media houses in print, television or online form. Every year eminent spokesperson comes together to discuss about the currently relevant role of Media in Business. This year the theme on which discussion took place was “Commercialization of media: what is the priority: Business or Ethics?” Eminent panelists of Media Conclave 2010 included Mr. Swapan Dasgupta, journalist and political commentator, Ms. Preeti Mehra, Deputy Editor, HT Media, Ms. Neelu Bhatia, Special Correspondent, The Week, Mr. Manohar Manoj, Editor, Economy India. , Mr. Amit Agnihotri, Chairman, MBAUniverse.com, Mr. Vikas Pathak, Correspondent, the Hindustan Times.

Indo – Japan Collaborative Seminar

There is always more mystery.”Anais Nin Believing in the same, Department of Management Studies under the able guidance of Dr. Surendra S. Yadav & Dr. Kiran Momaya organised the IndiaJapan Collaborative Seminar on 31st October 2009 to explore the dynamics of Indo Japanese ties in the current scenario and how both the nations can evolve a winning strategy in face of global and regional challenges. Key objective of the seminar is to evolve new approaches to India-Japan collaboration by learning from experiences of veterans as well emerging reality from projects of young researchers. The event saw an enthusiastic response from students of DMS who took up the opportunity to interact with Japanese delegates and students with an open hand. The event saw a host of Japanese bigwigs including H. E. Hideaki Domichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. N. Noguchi from Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Mr. Takeshi Yoshida from New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization(NEDO), Mr. Nakajima from Mitsui & Co. India Pvt., Ltd. and Mr. Mayur Shah from Mizuho Corporate Bank Ltd., Delhi. The students from Rikkyo University, Japan and their Indian counterparts presented interesting case lets on the interaction between Japanese and Indian markets and how to evolve strategies for the best interests of both nations. The Japanese team carried the day through their precise and crisp presentation but after being thoroughly challenged by teams from DMS.
Pfizer innovation B-Plan Competition
Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, in collaboration with Pfizer organized a Bplan competition ’Pfizer Innovation Prize’ open for all IIT students on 23 April 2010. Topic of the business plan was Electronic Commerce Applications in Health Care/ Pharmaceuticals Industry. Participants included students from various departments of IIT Delhi. Four teams were shortlisted for presenting their plan out of several entries. The competition was won by Team Ambrosia. The winning team was awarded US$ 3,000.00 and a letter of recommendation from Prof. Stan Kachnowski, HIT Lab, Columbia University, New York.
Confluence 2010 – The idea series…..
Confluence, the much awaited seminar series, organized by the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi conducted sessions on two core managerial topics – Finance and Marketing. The event saw two sessions, the morning session which delved into Finance and had eminent business leaders presenting their views on ‘Time to go Retro’ and the afternoon session which saw various industry leaders sharing their thoughts on the theme ‘Brands Turning into Commodities’. The Confluence was started with the inaugural speech by the senior faculty member of Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, Prof. Vinaysheel Gautam, which was preceded by the lightening of auspicious diya by the guests present. The session on Marketing was chaired by the senior Professor of Marketing, Department of Management Studies, IIT- Delhi, Prof. Harish Chaudhary. The Marketing session saw panelists from various spheres of Corporate World, holding varied positions of responsibilities. Mr. Debashish Paul, SVP-Marketing, McCann; Ms. Nita Kapoor, EVP Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Godfrey Philips; Ms. Anisha Motwani, EVP and CMO, Max New York Life; Mr. Sandeep Srivastava, Founder Chairman, IYC World; Manish Rangra, Executive Business Director, JWT; Mr. Shouvik Roy, Partner, Brand Planet; Mr. Hitesh Oberoi, COO, Naukri.com; were present to discuss on the theme ‘Brands Turning into Commodities’. Their discussion focused on the major forces that pave ways for the Branding and the forces of commoditization of brands. They took real life cases to elucidate the factors leading to the commoditization of brands. Discussion also saw the importance of personal branding, ethical context in branding, cult branding and brand repositioning. Not only this some of the speakers also emphasized on the importance of various frameworks of Marketing not only for companies but also for the countries.
