The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will soon be taking a final call on the suggested underpass below the runway for Mysuru airport which was raised to remove the need for acquiring land for diverting National Highway 212. The intended alignment for the extended runway would cleave NH 212, which joins Mysuru with Nanjangud and Gundlupet. As a result, the runway extension proposal has been held up. Another option was to divert the highway which needed nearly 180 acres of land to be procured. An expert team from the DGCA and the Airports Authority of India recently conducted an inspection at the airport. The team also took note of the security repercussions in case the underpass proposal gets passed.
