Opportunities for businesses to strengthen their competitive position with respect to competitors
How a Boost to the Competitiveness?
Empirical Study

• Electricals and material supply Industry aligned itself the second most with EMS, it being technically advanced
Sample Profile
Overall profile: • By productive sector • By number of Employees • By annual turnover • By the management systems implemented
Analysis of Responses from Study
• Factors which influence increased competitiveness in industry
– Increased Product Quality – Optimization of Resources – Improved corporate image – Compliance with the legislation – Improved control and overall management
Analysis of Responses from Study
• Obstacles to eco management in the industry – The high cost of investment requirement – Lack of managers commitment – Ignorance of regulations – Lack of government incentives – Customers not concerned

Companies that agree with competitive effects of EMS
• Vfav: (17%)
– Companies with a very favorable opinion – Attributed “cost reduction” aspect of EMS to their competitive advantage – Chemical Industry topped
• Fav: (43%)
– Companies who are in process of implementing – Attribute “corporate image enhancement” as prime reason to follow
• Unfav: (34%)
– Don’t have EMS, don’t believe in “cost reduction” due to EMS – Leather, cork and paper top this bracket
• NK (6%) Companies don’t buy the importance environmental concerns in day-today business affairs
