Are Students forced to take up Engineering against their will only because their family thinks that its the best option?

I'm a trainer and have been training for a while now. I come across individuals almost in evey batch who now have no dreams to chase as it was already pre-decided by Family or Parents. It makes me want to wonder if students are not trusted to choose what they wish to study and pursue or if they are forced to take up Engineering as they believe its the best career path for the child. I believe this is unfair as students have the right to decide what they want to study and build their own dreams. I do not get why they are deprived of this?

In my opinion parents generally think about their past and they don’t want that their child will suffer any sort of problem in future. Also children remain shade of their parents most of the time. They are not allowed to move out or see the world by their own. :SugarwareZ-206:

To gain experience it is very necessary to see what’s going on around you. If more option were shown to them then defiantly they will have dream of their own and not of their parents or family.:SugarwareZ-111:

Definitely....somewhere engineering spreads like a flu...doesn't matter whether the child is having brain or not...whether he knows abt it or not...the pros n cons...but ENGINEERING HAS SCOPE...this is the picture in the mind of the parents and even in the child....

It takes lots of time to understand the actual skills and abilities n we when come to know abt it then it becomes too late...

Certain facts of doing Engineering:

1. peer pressure
2. Parent's choice
3. High salary package
4. Sake of friendship
5. Has scope
6. Has fame in the market
7. Demand of the market
