ViewSonic was the first manufacturer to bring Smart Display to the market, with the Airpanel V150 in early 2003. This included a 15" 1024×768 LCD, a 400MHz Intel XScale processor, 32MB ROM, 64MB RAM and 802.11b wireless, and a USB wireless hub for the host PC.[citation needed]

Viewsonic's G Tablet may not have made much of splash when it debuted last fall, but it's certainly been picking up a bit of steam as of late. A recent price drop brought its cost down to just $280, and hackers have even managed to overclock its processor to 1.4GHz and get it running CyanogenMod 7 to boot. Now Viewsonic itself has given the tablet a further boost, with a new firmware update bringing support for both Flash and USB peripherals, which can apparently also be used with a docking station. The update's of the over-the-air variety, and should be waiting for you if you haven't turned on your G Tablet in the past few days.

I purchased two ViewSonic A70 monitors from CompUSA. ViewSonic was running a promo offering rebates for their monitors. I purchased the two monitors not only having good faith that the company I'm buying from sells good quality products but could honor their promises.

Immediately after I purchases the monitors, got back to my office to start the rebate process. I didn't even unpack the monitors. I filled out the forms, copied the receipts, cut off the UPC code for each monitr and sent each rebate in its own envelope with each of its own copy of receipts, UPC barcodes, and rebates forms.

I double checked the information I have provided. I checked in such a way I knew I would not be needing duplicate copies of anything. That was a mistake.

A month later I received emails stating that they have received my rebate submission but where missing not only the rebate form??? ...but the original receipt and the UPC barcode as well.

I thought to myself "how could they have received my rebate submission if they didn't receive the rebate form or anything I had sent???" Anyways I decided it was all a racket.

I sent ViewSonic a professional letter stated my disgust in the matter. Two weeks later I received a letter stating:

Andy Garcia, 39, of Montebello, is accused of hacking, as well as wiping out critical data, which shut down a computer server that authorities say was central to the company's office in Taiwan. He was taken into custody by the U.S. Department of Justice after an indictment last month by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles. Garcia is scheduled to go before a judge about 2 p.m. PST in United States District Court in Los Angeles. If convicted, Garcia could face 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Garcia was the network administrator at ViewSonic's headquarters in Walnut, Calif., where he was in charge of several computer servers and had access to system passwords for management employees.

On April 14, 2002, approximately two weeks after Garcia was fired, authorities say Garcia accessed ViewSonic's computer system and deleted files on one of the servers that he had maintained while he was still employed by the company.
Assistant United States Attorney Wesley Hsu told internetnews.com Garcia used a virtual private network (define) that he established while at the company to access ViewSonic's system.

"On the day of the intrusion, the ViewSonic computer logged his computer access using different user names -- not his own -- but the company kept logs and the intrusions could all be traced back to Garcia's home computer IP address," Hsu said.

According to the arrest warrant, ViewSonic claims the database server was offline for three days. Early estimates place the damage at $1 million.

Representatives with ViewSonic were not immediately available for comment.

Garcia was also charged with possession of a semi-automatic assault weapon found at his home. His possession of such a weapon is unlawful because he was previously convicted of two felonies. On May 31 1988, Garcia was convicted of assault with a firearm and corporal injury to a spouse.

Hsu said there was no indication that Garcia was planning to physically attack his former employers.
