Uwajimaya is a family-owned supermarket chain based in Seattle, Washington, selling mainly Asian food—with an emphasis on Japanese—though it also stocks Western staples. The flagship store is in Seattle's Chinatown/International District with three other stores in Beaverton, Oregon, Bellevue, Washington and Renton, Washington. Until the late 1980s there was another store near the Westfield Southcenter mall in Tukwila, Washington. Its corporate headquarters is in Seattle's Industrial District.

If, by definition of the IRS guidelines, an employee is deemed to be a Highly Compensated Employee, there may be restrictions on participation in this plan during the first year of employment.
Vacation: An employee is eligible for two weeks/year for the first four years; three weeks for years 5-9; and four weeks thereafter. Vacation leave accrues each pay period and carries over from year to year up to twice the annual accrual.
Illness Absence: An employee is eligible for eight days/year. Illness absence is awarded annually. Unused time may be carried over from year to year to a maximum of 12 weeks.
Personal Days: An employee is eligible for two personal days per year. Personal days do not carry over from year to year. In November 2000, Uwajimaya moved one block south to anchor the ambitious new Uwajimaya Village in the heart of Seattle's Chinatown/International District. The 66,000 square foot retail space includes Seattle Uwajimaya Asian Food and Gift Market, Kinokuniya Bookstore, Washington Mutual Bank, Salon Juno, Paris Miki Optical, Savvy Asian Cosmetics and an Asian food court. Uwajimaya Village is also home to the Uwajimaya Village Apartments, a 176-unit apartment complex above the store.
Sadly Sadako Moriguchi, pillar of Uwajimaya and the Moriguchi family since Fujimatsu's passing in 1962, also passed on in the summer of 2002. Sadako's passing was greatly mourned by the many customers and employees who had known the matriarch from her many hard working years.
Today Uwajimaya's CEO is Tomoko Moriguchi Matsuno. The company board of directors is led by Chairman, Tomio Moriguchi and Vice Chairman, Akira Moriguchi. Seven family members are active in day-to-day management of Uwajimaya. Besides its original retail business, Uwajimaya, Inc. has grown to include food service and food processing divisions.
