Six Flags Friends is a series of programs throughout the Six Flags family of parks that make a difference in communities by encouraging local involvement, supporting the mission of various non-profit organizations, and bringing the thrill of Six Flags to children and families across
North America.
Who Are Our Six Flags Friends?
From hardworking employees to Guests who want to make a difference. From organizations that change lives to Six Flags Friends Ambassadors. Six Flags Friends is quickly weaving a wide circle of friends everywhere.
Employees
All 37,000 Six Flags employees are invited to develop, cultivate and participate in local Six Flags Friends programs. Employees have the important task of hand delivering smiles and thrills while championing the missions and causes that are the essence of the Friends program.
Guests
Six Flags Friends continually strives to connect people with people while inspiring them to make their mark on the world. It is our Guests that will advocate change in their communities and take the thrill of Six Flags far beyond our gates. It is only through guest participation in events and programs that the Six Flags Friends mission is brought to life.
Organizations
Six Flags Friends supports the mission of hundreds of local and national organizations each year through ticket donations and the development of unique programs and events. The Friends program exists to further the work of organizations whose mission aligns with our goal of bringing the thrill of Six Flags to families and children across North America. From walk-a-thons to private events, from fundraising to hospital visits, Six Flags Friends is proud to support organizations that are truly making their mark on the world.
Six Flags Friends Ambassadors
A Six Flags Friends Ambassador is someone who displays extraordinary leadership, creativity, passion and knowledge for a chosen cause. Ambassadors are essential to delivering their message while advocating change and creating awareness.
High employee turnover affects a company's bottom line. It's expensive to recruit and train employees that may leave too soon. Improving employee retention is key to a company's success. Taking the time to invest in staff through career paths, opportunities, training and hiring will save the company in the end by keeping the best employees. A positive work environment, where employees feel appreciated, encourages them to work harder, benefiting both themselves and the company.
Create Career Path
Employees strive to increase their knowledge, skills, responsibilities and compensation. Fostering a strong career path for employees will keep them focused on moving up the ladder. The chance of promotion gives the employee a reason to stay. Create different levels within a job that offer opportunity for upward movement of job title, pay and responsibility. Share different job descriptions for each level with staff so they understand how to get to the next level. Knowing there is a career path and opportunity is very motivating to staff.
With increasing frequency Human Resource staff are experiencing staff approaching them for assistance with their career situations. These approaches can be informal such as in the corridor, cafeteria, staff functions, even the car park. More formal settings are where the staff member has been referred by their manager or has requested a meeting with their career issues on the agenda. Where ever the location the HRM person is thrust into a career coaching role.
The kinds of assistance employees seek for their career development support are diverse. Just some concerns for which answers are sought or support requested are:
Help with life planning concerns
Need for career information
Clarifying what the employer expects of them
Determining appropriate type of career path in relation to training and work experience
Determining appropriate type of career path in relation to interests, values, skills and personality
Learning more about their skills and capabilities
Preparing for next career review discussion with manager
Changing career path
Help in changing to a part-time job or job-sharing arrangement
Obtaining a transfer locally, interstate or overseas
Résumé counselling
Apprehension about change
Job application counselling (promotion, transfer, re-employment)
Interview training (one-to-one and selection panels)
Help with further education course selection
How to write a career plan document
The challenge for the HR person in their career coaching role is to act as a facilitator of employee retention and their development and to guide the employee to the 'right action' for both the individual and organisation.
Coaching opportunities
Underpinning the interaction with the employee career coaching has the opportunity to do the following:
Connect staff with a deeper level of motivation than 'just having a job'. In the process staff discover their passion and purpose to guide their career action step decisions and are empowered to propose work content that they can love, not just tolerate.
Probe for conversational openings that may lead to resolution of 'hidden issues', rather than providing just a 'quick fix' to the proffered problem.
Create positive coaching interactions by listening, observing, discerning and modeling.
Deliver effective coaching through feedback, questions, statements, confrontations and ideas.
Improve the employee's ability to market them in the internal job market.
Increase their potential for career growth and earning power.
Assist staff in becoming 'career self-reliant' by taking control and ownership of their own career development.
Increase the employee's awareness of career path options.
Improve the capability of staff to cope with constant change and transition.
