Royal Caribbean International is a Norwegian / American cruise line brand based in Miami, Florida and owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.. With 42 ships in service under 5 different brands and one more under construction, it controls a 25.6% share of the world cruise market.[3] All ships since 1991 have names ending in "of the Seas."

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line was founded in 1968 by Anders Wilhelmsen & Company, I.M. Skaugen & Company, and Gotaas Larsen, Norwegian shipping companies. The newly created line put its first ship, the Song of Norway, into service two years later. The next year, the line's capacity was doubled with the addition of the Nordic Prince to the fleet. Continuing to expand, the line added the Sun Viking in 1972. After four years of successful operation, Royal Caribbean's Song of Norway became their first passenger ship to be lengthened. This was accomplished via the insertion of an 85-foot (26 m) section to the vessel's severed center. Following the success of this procedure, Nordic Prince was stretched in 1980. Royal Caribbean finally received widespread global recognition when in 1982 it launched the Song of America, over twice the size of Sun Viking and at the time the third largest passenger vessel afloat (after the Norway and the Queen Elizabeth 2)
Royal Caribbean innovated once again with its 1986 lease of a coastal property [2] in Haiti for use as a private destination for its guests. This destination is now called Labadee. After a corporate restructuring in 1988, the line launched Sovereign of the Seas, the largest passenger vessel afloat at the time. Two years later, Nordic Empress and Viking Serenade entered service for the line, continuing a rapid growth trend within the company. In the same year Royal Caribbean purchased its second private destination, Little Stirrup Cay, an island in the Bahamas, which they rechristened "Coco Cay."

G.I.V.E. Day
Our annual corporate volunteer day is the largest volunteer effort by a single company on a single day. Every year since 1997, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. employees, along with their friends and families, vendors and business partners, join forces nationally and internationally to assist non-profit and community organizations with improving the quality of life in their local communities. Our employees have pitched in at schools, children's homes and neighborhoods in the United States and Europe.

Now in its 10th year, G.I.V.E. Day is an example of how the 40,000 Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. employees give back to their communities around the world, by donating thousands of volunteer hours to assist their communities with neighborhood development, civic drives, environmental improvement and disaster recovery.

G.I.V.E. for the Holidays
Shipboard employees work hard in the weeks and months leading up to the winter holidays to raise money for the charity of their choice in one of their ports of call, and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. match up to $2,500 of the funds raised on each ship. The crew members then purchase items the charity has requested, including mattresses, educational tools and other special gifts to bring hope and joy to the children and families in that city.

One of Royal Caribbean Cruises employee benefits is the ability to work for fourteen weeks straight and then to receive fourteen weeks off. This is the case for a large number of the Royal Caribbean staff, and a big advantage to many who enjoy spending long blocks of time at home with their families. In addition to this popular work arrangement, another Royal Caribbean Cruises employee benefit is discounted rates for employees or immediate family members that sail in the employee’s cabin. Discounted rates are also available for extended family members to sail in guest cabins.
