Sixty-nine percent of health care organizations report having moderate to great trouble retaining employees with critical skills, compared with 43% of organizations across all industries, according to a report released Wednesday by Watson Wyatt Worldwide and the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, the AP/Arizona Republic reports. Jamie Hale of Watson Wyatt said the high-stress environment in hospitals explains why some workers choose to leave. Chronic shortages of nurses and physical therapists needed at hospitals and clinics exacerbate employee retention problems, Hale added. Health care workers almost always have job opportunities elsewhere. For example, a pharmacist could work at a retailer instead of a hospital and a nurse could work for a health insurer. In addition, the report -- which is based on survey responses from 110 health organizations -- finds that 42% of health care organizations offer total reward strategies, such as retirement plans and vacations, compared with 70% of other industries. Hale said that instead of simply raising salaries to quickly fill positions, employers in the health care industry should consider adding more perks to help improve retention, the AP/Republic reports

Home healthcare is one of today’s fastest-growing business sectors – a multibillion-dollar industry that is expected to grow exponentially into the next decade. It is an industry with the resources to provide unparalleled opportunity for establishing a long and stable career

Great Healthcare Has Come Home®
Gentiva® brings clinically advanced treatment to patients right where they live. Caring for nearly half a million patients each year affords us the opportunity to create best practices and develop them into industry-leading protocols and specialties. With Gentiva's help, many patients are able to shorten their hospital stay, recover more quickly, and play a more active role in their own treatment.

Making a Difference
For clinicians, homecare provides a unique opportunity to deliver on the promise that led them to a career in healthcare in the first place. Providing care in the patient's home is a personal, one-to-one experience that other healthcare jobs can't match. Allowing the clinician to focus on the specific needs of the patient without other distractions is something that patients, family members and the clinicians themselves can really appreciate.

The Right Team, The Right Path
At Gentiva, we value collaboration. That's why we apply a team concept to everything we do. Even when clinicians are treating patients one-to-one in their homes, they have the support and skill of their fellow clinicians, program directors and administrators behind them.

Working at Gentiva® means unparalleled opportunity for career growth – especially for our clinicians. In fact, many of our Gentiva branch management and specialty directors began their careers as home health clinicians.

To address a full range of patient needs, multiple disciplines are often called on to work together as a team to provide a diverse range of services that includes disease and pain management, cardiac care, wound care, infusion therapy, respiratory services and home medical equipment, and physical, occupational and speech therapy. In some of our locations, we also provide hospice services to meet a growing desire from communities for in-home end-of-life care.

As a member of Gentiva’s clinical team, you will:

Work one-on-one with patients
Handle a wide range of diagnoses
Partner with other highly skilled clinicians
