Wat is disinvestment?
The sale of the govt. shareholdings to pvt parties is known as disinvestment.
I need more elaboration.
 
It is in tune with the motive of the government towards market economy. Since it is well established fact that the market economy manges more efficient utilization of resources. The disinvestment will lead to increasing power of decision making to private players.
 
The action of an organization or government selling or liquidating an asset or subsidiary. Sometimes the government objective in disinvestment might me just making money
 
As the name itself suggests it is the opposite of investment. Any investor can decide to disinvest for reasons of getting liquid cash or if the investment is not giving satisfactory returns. I

n macroterms, disinvestment is resorted to by Government to raise resources and to share management responsibility with willing partners.
 
Department of Disinvestment comes under ministry of finance, in 2009-10 major disinvestment took place in National Hydroelectric power corporation and Oil india Limited. The latter is the largest public sector company that had been awarded NAVRATNA status that is a greater freedom in it's operation and greater autonomy in the global world.
