Does break in academics render u a setback in MBA admissions ?

I initially started off with engineering...after 12th ...But quit midways ...the reason being i screwed up in choosing a college..which was probably the worst u could ever get into .and ran into some trouble with my profs......i lost a few years...though i might state that i had good aptitude for engineering and did clear maths and mechanics probably the toughest of them easily...Now iam into BMS and scoring a whooping 78 consistently...I believe i have the edge over few given the fact that i am good at extremely good in maths and have a quite okay vocabulary ......I have already enrolled for coaching in my second year for Cat..

but my fears are whether i'll be discarded or disqualified given the fact that my academic accomplishments might not match like some who have distingusihed academic accomplishments...??? I mean what exactly happens in PI ??? will they take into account my previous academic records ???

Aiming for IIM's or other reputed institutions !!!

I don't think it should matter....'Cuz business schools are looking for that special someone, who is different from others, someone who is part of the crowd but still no part of it .
If you score real good in the written test and if you can explain why you missed those years, favourably, I see no reason why you should be sidetracked.

It's just not engineers who get in you know ! The IIM'S were not build for them.
Which college are you doing BMS from, by the way ?

I think before doing MBA experience is must to appreciate the topics & importance & usage . So break for company exp before MBA is a good thing .

see, a break in your education will not hamper you in your entrance exam or Group Discussion... so it boils down to the Interview..... if you are asked about your break and if you are able to give a sufficiently confident and sincere reply then nothing wrong in it..... people who take interviews in good colleges generally dont tend to be judgemental..... if you prove that you became a better person through that gap then you'll do just fine.... just think of a good way to present your case....

Well academic breaks do cause problems, but it depends on the conditions and the surplus you have done to cover it.

In ur case, if you can justify why you had to quit engineering to join BMS, it should suffice, eg. lack of interest, medical problems, etc.

Even the 'quality of the engineering college' can work.

PI is not the only stage in the selection process. If u can work your way through cracking CAT and show consistent performance in your graduation, you can sail your way into IIMs.

Just keep working hard and prepare very well for CAT.

All the best.
