I & B Ministry lashed news channels and command them that they should immediately stop showing live coverage during Gurdaspur terrorist attack. Punjab is under terror when terrorist invaded with guns and attack Police stations in Dinanagar in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district killing 8 people. Security forces took over the situation and their operation to neutralize terrorists is at full swing. The Information & Broadcasting ministry asked the news and current affairs television channels to "desist" from engaging in live coverage of the anti-terrorist operations with “immediate effect"

According Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2015, state that “no programme shall be carried in the cable service which contains live coverage of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces” and that “media coverage shall be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate government till such operation concludes”.

The ministry further stated that it has been brought to its notice that “during today’s ongoing anti-terrorist operations in Gurdaspur, Punjab, some News and Current Affairs TV channels have carried telecast of these operations without restricting themselves to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government, though the operations had not been concluded”.

“Such telecast is in clear violation of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2015, and is therefore liable for action thereunder. Therefore, it is hereby advised to desist from further violation of the above said Rules with immediate effect,” the I&B advisory stated.

Well, this is not the first time when media has ignored the rules, even at vulnerable time during 26/11, it won’t be wrong to say that media inadvertently helps terrorist to gauge the location of military which leads to ginormous problem. Media is the messenger of news but they have to understand the sensitivity of the issue and their immature and imbecile move could be more devastating for the hostages who are trapped and even it is dangerous for the soldiers working on rescue mission. Do you really think that such move from media is right or just to improve their channels TRP?

It should not be aired live as this may create threats in the common man. How can the media shows such violent things which can be the cause of any threat and danger. They should understand their responsibility that their duty is to aware the people with latest happenings and news but do not have right to spread threat.
