Do we drive the Technology or Technology drives us?

it can go both ways actually as man needs technology to evolve and to advance as a civilization while technology drives us to further improve ourselves in turns of technical know how and also knowledge about how to use new technologies . so its like a symbiotic realtionship more that one driving the other .

We drive technology. I think we should look at the bigger picture. For example, not everyone uses the internet. Though its the most resourceful thing, I think there is a larger %age of people not using it across the world. The same goes with cellular technology. Though cellular tech has crossed various boundaries, most people use the basic calling functionality. Until we reach a point where this equation changes, we are driving technology.

With the growth of the technical era, it has taken over the life and man is now acting like a machine . A stage would come when machines would command the directions and amn would follow.
Lets look at the larger picture with the increase of technology, hazards have grown manyfolds.

Values drive goals, goals drive necessities and wants, and necessities and wants drive innovation (and thus invention).

But that in itself doesn't entail economic growth. I doubt all the latest gadgets for wanking off will send anyone to the Moon or make permanent wealth that will grow the economy as a whole (or subsection of wanking off gadgets industry).
