Do engineers really make good managers?

well forget bout engineers according to me even a chaprasi can become a gr8 manager with the help of his inborn skills n lil bit of guidance and training it all depends on the individuals capabilities.

Don't think u make generic statements like "Engineers make good managers" etc.. Its an individual trait that determines quality of a manager and not u r educational background.....

Yes, of course. I think they have the back up of the technical knowhow in addition to the managerial skills.

Engineering actually teaches you more abt management than its obvious... basically develops the aptitude for it. I guess i will have to agree..

HI

interpersonal skills are linked to your behavioral perspective.
An engineer is better equipped to analyse any situation using his analytical and logical acumen. When a person is moved to next level of hierarchy, they are made to go through a managerial training session where they learn the managerial tools in which the major stress is on their interpersonal skills as the main job of manager is to get work done by people, for the people keeping the interests of organisation ( which again constitute of people).

Hence, from my perspective its the attitude of person you deal with not engineering skills or management skills.

There is nothing wrong in that if an engineer is a manager .......since managemnt comes through day to day life and any educational backgroung can be a manager provided he should have a clear concepts of management which he can use throughtout his business and proffesional life.
