Do engineers really make good managers?

Yes of course they do ....engineers have the ability to create new versions in technical aspects....coming to the management issues they try to manage the things in such a way that profit is maximised and loss is minimised.that's what a perfect enginner as well as a Managing director does !!!!

In my opinion, everyone who are really disciplined can make good managers, when it comes to engineer, it may take a really disciplined person to go through an engineering major.

Yes they do since they are trained to think logically and analyse things in a much efficient ways. They can comprehend this at a much better rate and can handle the chaos and complexity in a much better way since they are trained in that way. So, I do feel that engineers make good managers.

Yes they do become a good manager. After achieving technical expertise, management education helps in them in broadening their view point. The result are managers who can do everything from marketing to production.

No doubt..engineers havng managerial shills r outstandng...They r the shining stars in huge professional sky....M i rit...???:SugarwareZ-088::SugarwareZ-119:

i say that they can become managers but effectiveness and efficiency does matter over here and they do have a strong command on tech skills but not on managerial skills so i dont agree that they are better managers

Yes, Engineers do make a good manager, because I feel that armed with techical skills and engineering background makes them used to the systematic approach to things. Also,they are more versed in measurements, controls etc.

They are able to plan and work accordingly. This seems to be generally true in case of engineers in the production and the manufacturing line.

But, it is felt that the software engineers, though they are good when they work individually, there are many failures when they are required to work in teams or lead the teams. What say??

techies r gud with analytical skils but most of them are caught in wrong jobs.i kno lots of BE dn Btechs working as sales managers in insurance co.s...

I Agree that engineers make good managers provided they are trained well in interpersonal skills and management concepts.
Engineers are excellent at using logic and numbers, if only they are trained in management, it will become an excellent combination

yes they do make a very very good managers because the mba degree makes them a smart werkers weth technical background making them hard worker.

weeellllll.............

engineers no doubt are good in reasoning and analytical skiils but being a good manager this skills are enough with a combination of this skills a manager must also posses personal and communication skill and should be a good leader........

thts wht i thinkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!

see.if you are an engineer you have great talent because completing engineering is not an halwa.and if you can do that you can almost do anything.and for being good managers you need to have good communication skills. by studing for engineering i guess you already must have good communication skill and if you dont you can enroll toursef in some classes for that purpose.some course personality development or pr will help you.

engineers can make good managers as long as they are willing to continue enhancing their skill-set beyond academic study. On the job, an engineer can develop "a broad understanding and a clear vision of various administrative, financial, and psychological issues," regardless that some people feel an engineering education hinders such learning
