Depositary Receipt

  • A Depositary Receipt (DR) means any instrument in the form of a Depository Receipt or Certificate (by whatever name it is called) created by an overseas Depositary Bank outside India.

  • A Depositary Receipt is a negotiable U.S. security that generally represents a company's publicly traded equity or debt.

  • Depositary Receipts can be eligible to trade on all U.S. stock exchanges as well as on many European stock exchanges

ADR & GDR

  • A DR issued in America is called an ADR & is traded on US stock exchange

  • A DR issued issued other than in US is called as a GDR.


Listing & Trading

  • ADRs are usually listed & traded on US stock exchanges including NYSE & Nasdaq .

  • GDRs are listed mainly at the Luxembourg stock exchange. They are traded at 2 other places besides the place of their listing:
