1. PROFILE SUMMARY
Gianpaolo Abatecola is a Senior Research Fellow (equivalent to Senior Assistant Professor) in
Management at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, from which he earned a Degree (laurea) in
Business Administration (Supervisor Prof. Roberto Cafferata) and a PhD. in Management and
Organizational Behavior. He then served the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa as a
post-doc scholar.
Dr. Abatecola’s research interests mainly lie in the following fields: Evolutionary Approaches to the
Theory of the Firm; Organizational Adaptation and Life Cycle; Managerial Decision Making,
Behavioral Strategy and Executives’ Personality; Corporate Turnaround.
Among the various outlets, his research has been published in the following journals: European
Management Journal, Futures, Journal of Management and Governance, Journal of General
Management, International Journal of Management, International Journal of Public Administration,
Journal of Management History, International Journal of Organizational Analysis, International
Journal of Globalisation and Small Business, International Journal of Business & Economics,
Finanza Marketing e Produzione, Economia Pubblica, Economia e Diritto del Terziario, Impresa
Progetto.
At Tor Vergata, Dr. Abatecola currently teaches: 1. General Management – Module I (formerly
Enterprise Management and Evolution, graduate level, in English, Master of Science in Business
Administration), 2. Advanced Management (graduate level, in English, Master of Science in
European Economy and Business Law); 3. Managerial Decision Making (graduate level, in Italian,
Master of Science in Economics and Management). In this University, he also taught Real Estate
Management (graduate level, in Italian, Master of Science in Economics and Management).
Over time, Dr. Abatecola has also taught, as Visiting Professor or Guest Lecturer, in the following
foreign Universities: Sheffield University Management School (UK), LEE University (USA),
Metropolia Business School (Finland), Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The
Netherlands), Instituto Superior de Comunicacao Empresarial (Portugal).
Since 2012, Dr. Abatecola has been serving the EURAM Conference as the co-chair of the track on
“Darwinism, Organizational Evolution, and Survival”. At the same time, he is an active member of
the following international institutions: American Academy of Management, British Academy of
Management, Strategic Management Society, European Association for Evolutionary Political
Economy.
Dr. Abatecola is an active reviewer for a number of management journals and currently serves the
Editorial Board of: Current Progress Journal, Graduate Journal of Research, Undergraduate Journal
of Research.
Finally, he serves Tor Vergata as a faculty member of the PhD. in Business Administration and the
co-program manager of the Master’s Degree in Real Estate Management. He also supervises a
number of students at both doctoral and graduate level.

1. PROFILE SUMMARY
Gianpaolo Abatecola is a Senior Research Fellow (equivalent to Senior Assistant Professor) in
Management at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, from which he earned a Degree (laurea) in
Business Administration (Supervisor Prof. Roberto Cafferata) and a PhD. in Management and
Organizational Behavior. He then served the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa as a
post-doc scholar.
Dr. Abatecola’s research interests mainly lie in the following fields: Evolutionary Approaches to the
Theory of the Firm; Organizational Adaptation and Life Cycle; Managerial Decision Making,
Behavioral Strategy and Executives’ Personality; Corporate Turnaround.
Among the various outlets, his research has been published in the following journals: European
Management Journal, Futures, Journal of Management and Governance, Journal of General
Management, International Journal of Management, International Journal of Public Administration,
Journal of Management History, International Journal of Organizational Analysis, International
Journal of Globalisation and Small Business, International Journal of Business & Economics,
Finanza Marketing e Produzione, Economia Pubblica, Economia e Diritto del Terziario, Impresa
Progetto.
At Tor Vergata, Dr. Abatecola currently teaches: 1. General Management – Module I (formerly
Enterprise Management and Evolution, graduate level, in English, Master of Science in Business
Administration), 2. Advanced Management (graduate level, in English, Master of Science in
European Economy and Business Law); 3. Managerial Decision Making (graduate level, in Italian,
Master of Science in Economics and Management). In this University, he also taught Real Estate
Management (graduate level, in Italian, Master of Science in Economics and Management).
Over time, Dr. Abatecola has also taught, as Visiting Professor or Guest Lecturer, in the following
foreign Universities: Sheffield University Management School (UK), LEE University (USA),
Metropolia Business School (Finland), Inholland University of Applied Sciences (The
Netherlands), Instituto Superior de Comunicacao Empresarial (Portugal).
Since 2012, Dr. Abatecola has been serving the EURAM Conference as the co-chair of the track on
“Darwinism, Organizational Evolution, and Survival”. At the same time, he is an active member of
the following international institutions: American Academy of Management, British Academy of
Management, Strategic Management Society, European Association for Evolutionary Political
Economy.
Dr. Abatecola is an active reviewer for a number of management journals and currently serves the
Editorial Board of: Current Progress Journal, Graduate Journal of Research, Undergraduate Journal
of Research.
Finally, he serves Tor Vergata as a faculty member of the PhD. in Business Administration and the
co-program manager of the Master’s Degree in Real Estate Management. He also supervises a
number of students at both doctoral and graduate level.
