Personal development planning is the process of creating an action plan based on awareness, reflection, goal-setting and planning for personal development within the context of a career, education, or for self-improvement. Just came across the definition of PDP and also noticed one thing, apart from what we learn in school and college or further at PG; do we ever denote time to plan for self development, we just go on with the flow without knowing what are we going to gain from the same or what is the use of the same in my life, am I going to benefit from it. Well the answer for almost all is NO although there are few exceptions to it. Personal developments plans are often a requirement for employee CVs. Employees who are participating in business training are often asked to complete a personal development plan.

Self-awareness is necessary to face the pain, gain the insight and allow growth to happen. Our heart constantly sends messages to our brain. Listen to it and feel the space open to new and novel experiences. This can be our source of energy, a chance to know our worth and our capabilities more.
As our employing organizations change, it is becoming increasingly important for us to develop our own plan and manage it to ensure our employability in these challenging times.

In a nutshell, the basic premise of a personal development plan involves;
Identifying where you are right now – What are your strengths, weaknesses etc
Identifying where you want or need to be – What needs to be worked on for you to get to the next level. Which weaknesses need to be addressed? What area is to be given priority?
Coming up with a plan to fill that gap – identifying resources, scheduling etc
Do you use a Personal Development Plan or get it done with the help of someone to plan your personal and career progression
What is the next step? And what is the outcome? If you master over these two questions you can develop the attitude of getting things done no matter what hurdles come in your path.
