Converting Waiting list to admission

As we start receiving the results of 1st/2nd deadlines from global b schools, some are joyous as they have got admission....others not such much (if they have not) but the trickiest are those on the waitlist ! Well , its better than being dinged and here is some advice we are giving to our clients . Read on but remember approach should be highly individual :

1. ensure you understand the letter properly and write to the adcom thanking them for the letter, placing on waitlist and most importantly asking them specifically if you can speak to them to understand what further evidence you can provide to strengthen the 'waitlist' to a yes.

2. Do the above even if the letter specifically mentions what the adcom want so that you understand fully the feedback . Sometimes BSchools will say as a policy they dont respond to waitlisted candidates and in that case , just write to them mentioning (and thanking) that you'd be happy to provide any further evidence the adcom might need

3. If you are able to extract some insights, ensure you act on it rightaway , whether its additional recommendation demonstrating quantitative ability or leadership evidence OR its writing additional essay to clarify any issue given in the feedback ....whatever it is , mention to adcom in writing that you will respond in a certain time frame and ENSURE you deliver per that

4. Finally, respect the BSchools wishes if they dont want to be contacted ! Cross your fingers and pray :)

Our experience at www.mindindigo.com suggests that its possible to convert waitlists and sometimes its just a matter of some clarification or further evidence thats required. Equally, it just might be that BSchools have offered to other candidates (who are stronger than you) but are hedging their bets by offering a waitlist so respect what they say but act swiftly(and get some expert guidance) on the feedback ideally by first speaking to someone from the admissions team

Best of luck
