THE Economic Development Board (EDB) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will spend $77 million over five years to set up an Asian consumer research institute.

Based at NTU's Business School, the Institute on Asian Consumer Insight (ACI) plans to have 20 researchers in five years, studying and researching trends related to consumers in the region.

Taking the helm as director of ACI will be Professor Bernd Schmitt, who founded the Centre on Global Brand Leadership at Columbia Business School.

ACI will offer education programmes for market researchers, including postgraduate degrees and executive development programmes, according to a joint press release by EDB and NTU.

NTU president Bertil Andersson said ACI would establish Singapore as the place to go to gain insights into the Asian consumer.
