Right from the very beginning of human evolution, development of communication was considered a very important asset in civilization. Be it vocal , instrumental or through pictures/gratifies.
Human being have a natural tendency to communicate with others, share their thoughts, lean from others , and to reciprocate feelings. The better a person can do that more civilized they will be and if we extrapolate the same principal, I don't think if we are doing something which we should repent for.
Talking of the modern era, Information technology and telecommunication are the two major sectors that are indispensable part of any industry. Even the average spending on these two sectors by any nation is much more than the net expenditure in any other domain.
I think if use it in efficient and productive manner then it is definitely a boon. But if not used properly then it wont take much time to be a bane for humankind.
