As I shared in a post on 27 April 2020, we decided to allowincoming students in the Class of 2022 to defer their offer of enrollment,given the challenges and uncertainties they are facing in this unusual year. Inso doing, we recognized that we would likely enroll a smaller class in Fall2020.
Today, I am writing to share a bit more detail about what weheard back from incoming students and the expected size of the Class of 2022.Here is a message that went out to the HBS community earlier this afternoon.
Thedeferral window closed yesterday, and we are delighted to let you know thatroughly 700 students confirmed they will join us in the fall.* Afterdrawing from our strong wait list, and knowing there may still be some smallshifts because of extenuating circumstances, we expect to enroll a class ofabout 720.
Moreover,the composition of the students who are joining us is similar to those whochose to defer, which means the class will have the diversity we strive for andthe critical mass to carry on all of our usual curricular and extracurricularactivities.*
We'reequally happy to have given the other admitted students an opportunity tomatriculate at a time that works better for them.* We look forward towelcoming all of them to the HBS community over the next two years and willexplore increasing our class size a bit as they enroll.
Our deep thanks to thoseadmitted to the Class of 2022 for their positivity and patience throughout thisprocess. We are grateful for the sense of partnership that has already formedamong incoming students, returning students, faculty and staff as we plan forthe upcoming year.
