<h2>Chennai Metro Inaugurated by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by videoconferencing.</h2>

The much awaited and anticipated Chennai Metro rail launched on Monday June 29, it is inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The flagging off will be done by videoconferencing. The first phase will be the nexus which connects Alandur in south Chennai to Koyabedu in the north. It will cover 10 km stretch in 18 minutes and have four coaches which can carry 1276 passengers. Once the project is completed it will bring huge relief in transportation and travelling. The 14,600 crore project would stretch to 45 km and connects 32 cities.
According to sources, the minimum fare for the metro service may be Rs. 10 and the maximum Rs. 40 for this 10 kilometre journey with the ride expected to take less than 20 minutes. Initially, there will be 9 trains running between Koyambedu and Alandur with a frequency of about 10 minutes, officials said.
The trains will halt for 30 seconds at every stop. It can carry more than 1200 passengers with seating capacity for 200 and standing 1000 people.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa will launch the project between Koyambedu and Alandur metro stations, a Metro Rail official told PTI.
Last year, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu had said the Centre had approved an extension of a nine-km stretch upto Thiruvottiyur from Washermenpet under phase-I of the project in North Chennai.
Venkaiah Naidu had said last year that the project between the Koyambedu-Alandur stretch will be launched by March 2015. After missing such deadlines, the project is now all set to see the inauguration soon albeit in a stretch of a corridor in phase-1.
