Chelsea Back In The Title Race[/b]
Manchester City’s loss earlier at Anfield gave Chelsea an opportunity to get back in the title race but the Blues needed a win at Liberty Stadium.
Their job was made a lot easier in the 16th minute when Chico Flores was sent off for a second bookable offence. From there it looked like Chelsea would be able to run over Swansea but a combination of good defending and poor finishing meant that Chelsea weren’t able to get an easy victory. The Blues were made to work hard but midway through the second half, Demba Ba controlled a sublime pass from Nemanja Matic and slotted the ball past Michel Vorm, who should probably have done better to save the shot. The goal proved to be the difference between the two sides as the game ended with a 1-0 win for Chelsea. Considering the fact that Swansea prefer to play a possession-based game, Jose Mourinho’s first eleven was selected to play a counter-attacking based game. After the sending off, the dynamics off the game change and in the first half Chelsea looked a bit confused in possession. Seeing this Mourinho decided to make two changes at halftime. He bought on Oscar & Samuel Eto’o for Ramires & Andre Schurrle and also tweaked the statement. The changes worked as Chelsea managed to stretch Swansea and created quite a few chances.
The Hero of the match was the Egyptian Mohammed Salah. The winger missed quite a few chances today, but he did a brilliant job of getting at the end of chances. He made really well-timed runs and willing to get a shot away. Most other Chelsea players were concerned with creating a chance but Salah with his explosiveness was the one who was ready to take the chances on. His directness gave Chelsea a different dimension and if he was a bit better with his finishing it would have been a brilliant game.
The result at Anfield has put Chelsea right back into the mix of title race. If the Blues manage to win all their fixtures, including the all-important one at Anfield, they will certainly finish above Liverpool and would need City to drop points in any one of the six games, to win the league title. Chelsea’s finishing tonight was appalling and has been like this was most of the season. The Blues really need to work at finishing their chances. If they were as good at finishing their chances like say Liverpool, they would have won the game by a bigger margin and would be running away with the league title.
