CET for BMS course scrapped

With seats outnumbering aspirants, Academic Council of MU decides to admit students on merit for the Bachelor of Management Studies

It was supply overshooting the demand that forced the Academic Council of Mumbai University to scrap the Common Entrance Test (CET) for the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS).

According to MU Vice-Chancellor Dr Vijay Khole, “The seats for BMS are more and number of students applying for the course has fallen drastically. This has resulted in almost all students getting admission. So, there was no point in taking CET, hence the Academic Council decided to scrap the CET.”

The decision to scrap the test was taken on Friday.

Every year, after HSC, about 8,000 to 9,000 students appear for CET to apply for about 15,000 seats in the city colleges. Students who fail are also allowed to apply since the seats outnumber the students who appear for the test. Those colleges who failed to fill their seats contacted the varsity on how to fill the empty seats. For those who failed the CET, the university directed the colleges to devise their own CET and fill the seats on merit.

“If we don’t get sufficient number of students for this course then what is the meaning of CET. It’s better to scrap it. In the name of CET, many coaching classes exploit students by charging Rs 5,000 to prepare them for this test,” said a professor of a suburban college.

After the scrapping of CET, students can breathe easy. They will save money on coaching classes and will get admission to BMS on merit.

hey guys post ur views whether scrapping of CET for the BMS course is justified or not.....awaiting ur replies........

Its justified.

In my view, number of seats should be increased in MBA colleges and the MH CET and CAT exam should be scrapped too.

More MBA's, better managers, skilled work force , dynamic entrepreneurs and the Indian economy will grow by leaps and bounds.

If only someone would put some brains in these so called leaders :(

actuallly im in 2minds 1 says its good dat its scraped as we know ppl wid low %'s are admiited in bms which is not fair enough as future managers need 2 be able to manage d work properly.but den as ppl frm science n arts faculty go 4 dis course so if dey go thru d CET process den dey wud come 2 know r dey really eligible.as adjusting wid accounts, law.etc is not dat easy in initial stages as its diffrnt frm bio, chem, phy.so scrapping d cet i a wise option i feel now lesc wat happens after dat.
