During this such a brief data amplify center for entrepreneurship program overview.

Center for Entrepreneurship

Program Overview
The UNLV Center for Entrepreneurship was established by the NSHE Board of Regents in 2005 to
promote the teaching, research, and practice of entrepreneurship in Southern Nevada. The Center
oversees several educational initiatives for UNLV’s College of Business including an MBA in New
Venture Management, and an undergraduate major in entrepreneurship.

World-class Faculty
Our programs are staffed exclusively with leading professors from the UNLV
College of Business who have significant experience in teaching business
concepts and skills. Our faculty are actively engaged in research and practice;
allowing them to bring their cutting-edge discoveries and insights into the
classroom. Every year, faculty from across the College of Business are invited
to compete for up to five research grants to directly support research programs
on entrepreneurship. Past recipients have been drawn from departments as
diverse as management, MIS, and marketing.

Entrepreneurship Programs – (http://entrepreneurship.unlv.edu/programs.html)
The UNLV College of Business offers an undergraduate major and minor in entrepreneurship, and a
graduate certificate and MBA concentration in New Venture Management. These programs provide
students with the skills needed to establish new venture feasibility, and to create high quality business
plans that can be used to guide real world businesses. Significantly enhancing the student experience,
local entrepreneurs, business community members, and angel investors regularly appear as guest lecturers
in the respective entrepreneurship programs.

As part of a recent initiative launched by the UNLV Center for Entrepreneurship and the Mendenhall
Innovation Program, MBA New Venture Management students now collaborate with students enrolled in
the College of Engineering. Graduating engineering students are required to develop a proof of concept
and prototype for a given technology as part of their capstone experience. MBA New Venture
Management students help to determine the feasibility of these technological innovations, and then assist
in the creation of comprehensive business plans used to guide the commercialization of the technology.
These plans are submitted to the College of Engineering’s Senior Design Competition, the Southern
Nevada Business Plan Competition, the Governor’s Cup, and the Tri-State Competition.

Business Plan Competitions
The UNLV College of Business has placed well in the statewide Governor’s Cup competition, winning
first place in the undergraduate and graduate divisions on several occasions. The winner of the
Governor’s Cup also represents Nevada in a tri-state competition with Oklahoma and Arkansas, supported
by the Reynolds Foundation—where UNLV has also performed creditably.

In September 2009, the UNLV College of Business and The Las Vegas
Business Press announced their co-sponsorship of the inaugural
Southern Nevada Business Plan Competition. The competition is open
to any entrepreneur within Southern Nevada who has an innovative idea
that can be developed into a business plan. Entries are judged by
faculty and industry leaders. The finalist will receive start-up funds as
well as on-going support to develop their ideas.

Center for Entrepreneurship

Advisory Board Members
The UNLV Center for Entrepreneurship’s Advisory Board is comprised of a cross-section of business
leaders and entrepreneurs from the Las Vegas area. The Advisory Board provides guidance and support
for the various programs and initiatives developed by the Center. Members of the Advisory Board assist
the Director with developing the Center’s strategic goals, fostering partnerships within the community,
obtaining external funding, guest-lecturing in classes, as well as mentoring students participating in the
Center’s programs. We continue to recruit highly qualified individuals to help lead the Center as it
pursues its mission of providing entrepreneurship-focused academic and experiential learning
opportunities for both students and the community.

Business Outreach – (http://bizoutreach.unlv.edu)
Beginning late summer 2011, the UNLV Center for Entrepreneurship will
begin offering an Executive Certificate in corporate entrepreneurship taught
by faculty from the MBA program. This non-degree program is designed for
practicing managers, business owners, and professionals who are seeking a
stronger foundation in organizational level entrepreneurship. This
certification is also useful for those who have experience in one area of
business, but want broader exposure to other areas in order to qualify for
positions of increased responsibility; or for professionals who will eventually
be responsible for launching new ventures within their organizations. In this program, participants will
learn about the innovative strategies employed by pioneering companies in the area of corporate
entrepreneurship.

Classes in this program are offered in a half-day format within a series of four 2-day modules that are
grouped together by several topics. The open enrollment policy allows business professionals and
entrepreneurs who do not have a formal education the opportunity to learn the most important concepts,
tools, and techniques taught in today's business schools.

Community Outreach
The Center has a successful working relationship with many local stakeholders, including the Las Vegas
Chamber of Commerce, the Latin Chamber, the City of Henderson, the Nevada Development Authority,
the Nevada Small Business Development Center, and the Vegas Valley Angels. We continue to grow our
network, and welcome the participation of community members and organizations who would like to join
us as we work towards the goal of creating economic diversity in Southern Nevada.
