Can salary be major factor for employee Satisfaction?

salary is the foremost ES pivot! sure responsibility n work life play a roll, but the thing that gets a person started on a job is the salary............

I feel it depends on the financial background of the employee. If his/her family is not depending on their salaries this factor may not matter for most.

Employee Satisfaction does not completely rely on Salary..bcoz..Employee might be highly paid..but if he/she is not satisfied with the work environment or with the work they do..their morale will be low and work turn over will also be less..
So a good working environment, plus a Good Salary adds a cherry to the cake.. :)

Of course, salary is important and nobody can work for free. The point here is would 10, 20 or even 25% increase in salary make any difference to your quality of life.

Salary is not always a major factor of satisfaction.Sometimes a good team, job at native place, free hand to work, comfort level with immediate boss etc. are the other factors which matters more.

salary can not be only a factor for satisfaction, an employee need other things like motivation safety & growth. well it also depends on case to case basis.

Well it depends, since most freshers would like to believe that money is everything. But as experience sets in so does the learning that money is not everything. I believe there are more parameters than money that motivates people. Not everyone is motivated by money.

Salary plays a major role in Employee satisfaction. I know that things like motivation, work environment, growth, etc matters. But only salary can be a big motivation factor for you in difficult situations at your workplace.

Salary/Pay
This is one of the most important factors to be considered before taking up a new job or leaving your current job. The pay, that you are getting and the growth pattern of that pay, will largely influence the level of your job satisfaction. If you are happy with your pay, it will show in your performance and productivity. Further, before you opt for quitting the present job, simply compare your pay with other people across the country in the same profile.

I think it is. If one is not satisfied with the compensation they are receiving, they will become frustrated and that defeats the entire question of employee satisfaction

Employees like to earn at least what they are worth. Most companies establish salary ranges for various jobs. For example, a consumer products company may pay marketing managers with three to five years experience $70,000 to $85,000 per year. Other salaries in the industry may be comparable. Therefore, if a marketing manager is not earning at least $70,000 annually, he may not feel he his being paid enough. Subsequently, he may become dissatisfied with his job and start looking for one that pays more. Pay is certainly not the only factor that affects an employee's job satisfaction. However, employees may become dissatisfied with jobs because of low pay, even when they are happy with other aspects.

Well i don't think so apart from salary
the important satisfaction factors for employees were:

1. relationship with immediate supervisor,
2. management recognition of employee job performance,
3. communication between employees and senior management,
the work itself, and
4.autonomy and independence.
