It will be wishful thinking. Comparing the social set up, the mindset of the people, the infrastructure they developed, India will always be at least 50 years behind China. We have no time to work, but more time to debate meaningless issues, debate on which relegion is best or which cast is best or which political party is best. Chinees do not bother about religion, caste or creed. For them work is worship.

I also think that India is far far behind China in terms of infra-structure,research,development. Also in terms of games(physical activites) India is lacking behind.People have a very different view of thinking in China which is very rational and modern.

no doubt cHINA IS AHEAD OF iNDIA IN ANY WAYS EVEN even chinas GDP is abt 11%

but most imp factor is...the wrking population that age grp of 18 to 35 is largest in India and lowest in Chinas...China's major population is almost @ an retirng age...dat means in long race India is a winner..

well to b optimistic we can, but frnds we hav a lot of work to do, if we e1 want to thnk we can really compete,

hi,
acoording to me China is better power asmpared to india . because of technology they are 5 -10 steps ahead , they are more decaded to learn new technology , the olompic was the best eg of display of tecnology

The idea that increased global competition for white-collar jobs undermines the notion that countries are better off by trading with each other contains a number of practical flaws, despite theoretical conclusions and "proofs" to the contrary ("Shaking up trade theory," "The China Price," Special Report, Dec. 6).

As long predicted, the Indian and Chinese economies are catching up to the West, a process that has accelerated in the past 20 years because of new technologies that have made the dissemination of knowledge (about markets, products, techniques, and so on) cheaper. This process is inevitable; we would be foolish to try to slow it. Relative wages in these countries are going to keep rising toward Western levels. Luckily, growth elsewhere represents new markets for Western goods and services, not just a new source of competition.

The strict discipline imposed on business by competition drives the creation of new products and technologies. It improves efficiency and lowers costs. Increased competition in the software and other white-collar jobs will have exactly the same effect it does in any other sector.

The question of how to maintain a high standard of living in a globalized economy is an important one. Domestic policies which favor innovation, competition, the development of human capital and potential, and quality of life will do this. Many countries back up such policies by actively redistributing wealth from globalization's winners to its losers. When new computer science graduates start to sell everything they have to seek job opportunities in Bangalore, I may worry that we have fallen behind. As long as the brain drain flows our way, we will have nothing to worry about.

If we start to think patriotically like most, we will say yes we can beat China.

But practically, ground realities are different. Mindset Change which I dont see happening. Disparities in all walks of life.

Observe the Power Crisis, still few years when we wud be able to meet todays requirements, let alone future requirements.

I read even after the Nuclear Deal, we will be able to meet 2050 projected requirement not fully still with low deficit, which effectively means we r not goin to achieve basic needs.

Again, many of us like Instantly available n Cheap products, so tht we can change or throw them or for variety amidst low price.

The Govt. is already killing Industry. No power, more taxes. I get slang on seeing 40-50% as Corporate Taxes, Dividend Distribun Tax. All reasons for these Guys to do Chori, evade tax. Govt Solution they burden the honest Salaried Tax Payer, his solution Bribe and now it is so instilled , engraved tht no matter hw much one accumulates, still hungry to get more n more.

Results Huge gap betn Rich n poor, givin rise to Naxalites & Looters, Terrorists. N common man is affected. Coz Ministers n all roam with Z Plus security. Tel One Minister who got killed for a cause or otherwise.

Govt Solution let them fight on some issues like Region - Religion so that they dont ask for basic necessities n fight on the name of God.

hmm... its an interesting question....
i think its tough. really tough...to compete against china.
the most basic hurdles are our corrupt beuracratic red tape, lack of infrastructure..... and our democracy!!!!
yeah... its true...
think bout it... while in china...the communist goverment can take any number of decesions swiftly to proceed with a plan while in our beloved bharat... it just opposite. so many laws and regulations and political, social and beuracratic hurdles block the way for making any new policy...for betterment.
i think unless at most basic level we reduce corruption, povery and illitracy...its hard to compete....
i personally support india us nuclear deal.....dis is really a great step to make a power deprived India to a power surplus country..

hey..guys.... I dont say that it can't be taken over....? Being practical.....all we can do is ..allocate our resources to innovate..... and i mean hard core innovation in terms of power, technology and agriculture..... I dont say it is a two day job but it must be started somewhere...

these were few questions raised by my friend...
can we think of working an extra hour without any extra pay as the chinese people did?

can we think of closing down our polluting industries just because olympics is there in our country?

can we compare china in patriotism?

All we can do is finding trade-offs b/w these two extremes..!!

i think india is far behind from china......in the matter of technology china have advanced technology than india .
Chinese r more hard worker than us ...it is reality , we have to accept

Chinas major strong point is its type of GOVT ie it follow communalism.. all belongs to the country..its like one party rule..

the question is should we even compete to grow. i think fundamentaly we are completly different from each other. each has its own strength and inherent weakness too... we trying to go all out and beat them in the manufacturing sector is neext to impossible (at least in the near future) we should look at our strengths and try develop them. for example the rise of BPO sector in India was mainly because of the english speaking popultaion that we have. this is something were our neighbours are far behind. but is this sustainable. the cost advntage tht v had is slowly but definitly being wiped of. And these jobs have already began to flow to lower cost countries. But wht have v done to hedge ourself from this? well could argue tht we have tried moving up the value chain and strtd getting more value added stuff. a step in the right direction but still a lot to hope for... the same is the case with most new age sectors.

ok so the point here is not if these sectors are "shinning" or not. The fact is if we do not understand the exact reasons behind the 8 - 9 % GDP growth and try to sustain it we might miss more than a few busses.

I believe that India n China r two different cases. Also, what we are doing today in India about SEZ was one by them several years ago.although govt. there is autocratic but still it foresaw oppurtunities of growth whereas our democractic system never gave a single direction to our economic growth
