You may like to read a book by Howard Schulz - One cup at a time. It is the story of Starbucks. The basic concepts behind both the brands - STarbucks and CCD have a lot in common. While Starbucks store lays claim to be the Third Place - the first being the house and the second the office. It also has stories of people getting married in the Starbuck Store. IN comparison CCD's lays it claim as a ' happening place' with the tag line - A lot can happen over coffee. This tag line probably hints at a broader age band in terms of market niche. Nonetheless, One cup at a time is a very interesting read.

Hey rajan, its a very interesting insight you've given. Im definately going to lay my hands on the book you mentioned. Though one particular point im confused about. IMO, the tagline a lot can happen over coffee by CCD actually really focuses on the youth segment and is more targeted. The ambiance is also vibrant as compared to other coffeelets. Barista is more on the expensive side of things and is a stop for professionals as felt by the ambiance again. Starbucks is the larger than life version of CCD and Barista.

I may be wrong. Looking forward to hear from you.
