and waters.
Despite our global reach, we are essentially
a local business with 112 manufacturing plants,
which are located in the 38 countries of the Europe
Group. This vast network is held together by our
franchise system between The Coca-Cola
Company and independent and operated bottling

bottlers in the world, Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc.
(CCE) and Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company
S.A. (CCH).

OUR COMMITMENTS IN EUROPE BY 2020 OUR ACHIEVEMENTS IN EUROPE UP TO 2011
We will reduce the Carbon Footprint of the drink
in your hand by -20% versus 2010
• Reduce the absolute carbon emissions from
manufacturing by -15%.
• Deliver a case of product with -20% less carbon
emissions in transport.
• Grow our cold drink equipment while reducing
our absolute carbon emissions by -10%.
• Use 30% alternative/renewable energy including
renewable energy supplied by the grid.
• Work with our suppliers to reduce the carbon
emissions of our entire value chain.
• 51% of our new coolers, vendors and fountain
equipment are already HFC-free and we
improved energy efficiency of new cold
equipment by 40% compared to 2000 models.
• We achieved 8% reduction of absolute carbon
emissions from manufacturing between 2004
and 2010.
• 17% of our energy is currently sourced from
alternative/renewable sources (including grid).
Energy management and climate change
We will recycle the equivalent of 80% of the
packaging that we use and we will significantly
reduce the use of primary resources needed for
our packaging
• Reduce by -25% the amount of material we use
in our packaging.
• All our PET bottles will be made from 100% plant
based and recycled material.
• All our packaging will be 100% recyclable.
• We achieved 33% packaging efficiency between
2004 and 2010.
• 12% of our total PET used in Europe was from
recycled material.
• Plantbottle has been introduced and represents
now over 4% of the volume (average 2011).
• We recycled the equivalent of 66% of the
packaging in 2010.
Sustainable packaging
Our plants will be water sustainable and
we will replenish 100% of the water we use
in our beverages
• Implement European Water Stewardship
Standard in all plants in our operations.
• Reduce water use to 1,4 l/l.
• Treat all wastewater in our manufacturing
operations to standard that supports aquatic life.
• Work with our suppliers to demonstrate
sustainable sourcing of our key ingredients.
• EWS implemented in 2 plants and 4 more
planned in 2012.
• Water use ratio improved 20% from 2004
to 1,9 l/l.
• 100% of our plants recycle all waste water
to the environment.
• We have assessed the water footprint impact
of all the beet sugar we source in Europe.
