So, P CHIDAMBARAM has come out with a budget that is aimed at pleasing all. Natural! Next year is Election Year! Income Tax sops, sops to Agri, sops to everyone! Do you think that this is going to help maintain a growth rate of 9 per cent, as the FM is hoping for? Or is this just a populist, Lalu-style Budget? What do you think?

I believe it's a good budget. Anyway, people expected a populist budget. But, relief in excise, personal tax, farm loans(don't forget these loans are already NPAs in the bankers' books).

Net-net, it will increase flow of money in the system.

Budget can never be good or bad .. for people who understand what a budget is.. its just public display of "An itemized summary of estimated or intended expenditures for a given period along with proposals for financing them"

and the same POA for the future ... whats good or bad about it  think about it ;) ?

well 60000 cr. worth loans are relievd.. v.good but wat abt the poor farmers who worked day and night to repay the loan... it means they shud have waited so that they can have the money for themselves... coz loan were to be relivd... poor they... they shud have know abt it... some kind of tarot predictions... and so smart is our govt they increased the petrol price way before the budget cool... so that they dont have to do that on the budget day... else the govt. would have got kicks for the increment.

18 years of budgetting... 5 F.M's have had their terms (including Mr. Palaniappan Chidambaram's 1996-98 regime) Each have gone on with the single goal of providing a well balanced if not gr8 budget... Everything has a flipside n hence 2 place da budget as good, great or bad shudnt b our prerogative...

Pros :
Emphasis on consumer, Farmers Debt waiver, Increase in IT slabs, Excise relief (major accordin 2 me) & of course impetus on health & education! :)

Cons :
Non assurity of implementation of evrythin said above (cum on guys this is India aftr all...Aftr amendments God knos wat will happen)

Only 10% increase in Defence allocation

Short term cap gains (STCG).... not actually a con 4 any1 except day traders but then in equities arent u spsd 2 always invest long term?!

BALANCED dats all i'll say & btw i dont include the woes of corporate india (regdin corporate tax) coz gr8 emphasis (n a clever move) has been given by the F.M on CONSUMER DEMAND n da way he's porrayed it... its definitely gonna grow...

cheers :) Vinay R.

HELLLO,
regarding ur query i wud say if mr chidambarans growth estimate figures n calculations are right then we may come up with a positive growth but if not this may be a problem for the economy also...takin in veiw the budjet whether be politically shaped or in favor of the economy there's a lot for common man which ultimately may have some impact on the spending and investment structure

If we Respect the Present and dont criticize the Past we can reach for pleasent Future.

hey dats like a true indian spirit....i completely agree with u rather then criticising and discussing lets make a diff where even two negatives can be turned to positive

But man i am not able 2 understand that pc has repetedly shown shown it's
intention that in coming years budget will not be of any significant importance as in past years,
then y v r taking it as amatter of such hot debate

In my opinion, budget is an election budget and it is all pleasant for the farmers.Mr.P.C has given around $10 Billion write-offs for the farmers. This will result in the liquidity cruch for the banks. We have to wait and watch how he is gng to manage the banking system. This write-off is thre because the agriculture is really not taking-off in India. The write-off serves as a pain-killer for the agrarians but didn't offer any solutions for them.Budget dint offer any encouragement for agriculture.

On expected lines,Peronsal Tax limit was increase to please the earning population. But no one expected the increase in the short term capital Tax gain from 10% to 15%.I tink it was big increase of 50bps.This is nt a welcome move among the stock traders or brokers.

There was also considerable decrease in the duty tax for the small and hybrid cars which pleases the car manufactures.

Will the budget can take India's growth story to 9% is smeting which we need to tink. Most important question the growth should be an inclusive growth to make the growth more stable and sustanable.
