The Business environment
The business environment consists of those forces and conditions outside the organisations boundary which have the potential to affect the operation of the business. The business environment is made up of the internal environment and the more encompassing external environment.
The Business environment is dynamic in nature as it keeps changing and requires constant monitoring by business managers in order to keep up with changes that may affect the operations of the business.
The Internal Environment
The internal environment consists of those forces and conditions that stem from within the organisations structure and have the potential to affect the way the organisation operates as it constitutes the organisations strengths and or weaknesses.
The manager of the organisation has a considerable amount of control over the internal environment.
The forces or conditions that could affect the operation of the organisation are but not limited to the following:
Managerial ability: This has to do with the management of the organisation. The ability of the manager to make decisions and effectively influence the actions of the employees or subordinates to the achievement of organisational goals and objectives could constitute a strength to the organisation or weakness
Employees: These are the organisational members who give their services, skills and their ideas to the organisation in exchange for remuneration. The nature, type, number, skills and or qualification of the organisation’s employees could be a strength or weakness to the organisation.
Stakeholders: These are the people who have something of interest to benefit or lose from the organisation depending on the organisation’s performance. Changes in the nature, size and types of stakeholders could constitute strength or weakness to the organisation.
Trade union: This is a collection of people (especially the employees) in the same trade who share similar interests and have come together in order to protect their collective interests. Changes in the number, size, nature and types of trade unions could constitute strengths or weakness to the organisation.
The External Environment
The external environment which is made up of the task environment and the general environment constitute those forces and conditions outside the organisation’s boundary which have the potential to affect the operation of the business as it posses either opportunities or threats to the business organisation.
The Task environment
The task environment also known as the micro environment consists of those forces and conditions which affects the organisation’s ability to obtain its input resources and dispose its outputs or products. The organisation has little or no control over the task environment.
Forces and conditions that may affect the task environment may include the following:
Suppliers: These are individuals or organisations that provide the business organisation with its input resources or materials. Changes in the nature, type and number of suppliers could present opportunities of pose threats to the business organisation.
Distributors: These are individuals or organisations that help the organisation in disposing its outputs. Changes in the nature, type and number of suppliers could also present opportunities of pose threats to the business organisation.
Customers: These are individuals or organisations that buy up the products or outputs of the business organisation. Changes in consumer taste, preference, income etc could present opportunities or threats to the business organisation.
Competitors: These are individuals or organisations that engage in the same production activities as the business organisation. Changes in number of competitors, their nature, etc could pose threats and or opportunities to the business organisation.
The General Environment
The general environment also called the major or mega environment consists of those forces and conditions outside the organisations boundary which the manager have no control over and could affect the operations of the business organisation as it presents opportunities or poses threats to the business organisation.
Forces or factors that affect the general environment include the following:
Economic forces: These are the forces that make up the general health of a nation’s economy. They include inflation, exchange rates, balance of trade and payments, level of unemployment, etc. Changes in these economic forces could present opportunities or pose threats to the organisation.
Socio-cultural forces: These are the forces that stem from the nation’s social structure and culture. It includes their cultures, traditions, beliefs, norms, values and ideas as well as social relationships within the nation. Management must pay keen attention to this environment as changes in these forces could present the organisation with opportunities and or threats.
Political-legal forces: These are forces that emanate as a result of legislations and laws guiding the operations of the business environment. The organisations activities are bound by legislations, laws and its article and memorandum of associations; and any activity outside these legislations is illegal. Changes in these legislations could pose threats or present opportunities to the organisation.
Technological forces: These forces come as a result of technological breakthrough. Any new technology could render the organisations products obsolete overnight. Therefore, keen attention should be paid to the technological environment as changes in this environment could either present opportunities or pose threats to the organisation.
International forces: These forces are as a result of business activities in other nations of the world. An organisation being an open system must interact with other organisations both locally and internationally. Therefore, keen attention must be paid to the international environment in order to meet up with changes that may occur which could pose threats or present opportunities to the business organisation.

As i said earlier, overall the results are good, seldom have people got KT's in ecotrix.. even in QMB there are not many kt's.
For finance the KT scene is similar to last year .. No worries![]()
