Its so hilarious and senseless attitude of some people to relate sex education with one and only one thing, that is sexual intercourse.
India clarifies whether sex education subject should be added in school and college curriculum, I want to highlight some points.
First of all, I think why the hell do we term it as a sex education ? The mention of the word sex still gives jitters in so many houses that one may feel embarrassed. Doesn't sex and sex related terms are a part of our health ? Then won’t it be better if we call it as ‘Health Education’ ? See, the mere change of the word itself brings a relief on so many faces. The thing is that sex education is a part of our health and after all, its inclusion is thought only because we want an India free from HIV/AIDS, early pregnancies and other sexually transmitted diseases. But its equally important to highlight the fact that sex education is not only sexual intercourse and the consequent diseases.
Sex or the gender of humans undergo several changes when they keep their feet in the adolescent age. The sexual growth with age, the personal hygiene and the psychological mind set to deal with these changes, is also what the sex education will teach the young students. However, I think parents, teachers and all those people who think in this manner should not be actually blamed. Considering our traditional background and upbringing, thinking in this manner is very obvious.
Secondly, we must also try to understand the seriousness of this subject. Every coin has two sides and pros and cons should be equally thought upon. No matter how open-minded one is, talking about sex, sexual growth and other related terms may bring a feeling of hesitance in anybody’s mind. seriousness of this subject, rules must be implemented to take several ‘Sex Education Sessions’ in schools and colleges and this should be in the form of counseling.
