Being Competitive at Office is always Good and Bad too

Sometimes you can view your workplace as a place similar to an akhada. You will need to have a variety of skills that will give you the competitive edge you need to succeed. It’s a mental game wherein you may come across colleagues who will try and pull you down to step higher over and above you in the hierarchy. At workplace you need to keep your ears widely open along with few of the other qualities like:

Listening Skills

Good listening skills make workers more productive.

The ability to listen carefully will allow you to:

Better understand assignments and what is expected of you;

Build rapport with co-workers, bosses, and clients;

Show support;

Work better in a team-based environment;

Resolve problems with customers, co-workers, and bosses;

Answer questions; and

Find underlying meanings in what others say.

Maintain eye contact

Don’t interrupt the speaker

Sit still

Nod your head

Lean toward the speaker

Repeat instructions and ask appropriate questions when the speaker has finished.

Bias or prejudice;

Language differences or accents;

Noise;

Lack of attention span.

Organize Your Writing[/b][/b]

List each item you need to discuss in your memo or report.

Put them in order -- from most to least important

Write a brief summary of your entire memo -- this will be your first paragraph.

Expand on each item listed in step 1.

If any action needs to be taken by the recipient, state that in your closing paragraph.

Improve Your Time Management Skills

Do you often feel like you have more things to do than you have time to do them? Here are tips to help you improve your time management skills both at work and at home.

Consider your career an investment in how you allocate time. Your work is your primary income, but you can also hedge against risk.

Don't take your health for granted. Always take the time to take care of your health, to do the things that you'd like in life and to prevent a long-term illness. Being too tired in the workplace can lead to injury. When asked about defining the term competition to you what would you say? For me it’s perceptual and the day when I achieve the things that I have planned in minimum amount of time. What about you?

Well it’s not just being competitive, if you are so then you have to face the negative effects of the same; like your colleagues don’t like you, you develop n number of enemies, grapevine etc. but in this process you will experience personal development as well total contribution to the productivity of the firm. Well it’s like a door of opportunity which you need to understand it is your determination that will enable you to swim the ocean of obstacles with great strength hence fuel your determination to enter into the opportunity and see what it’s about even when your interest level is not or has subsided.
