Competition is about bringing the best out of someone. The problem with beauty competitons is they objectify people based on looks and that is the final message the kids will get. If it were a talent competition, then by all means. However the focus will only be on what can be seen and the pressure exacted on these kids to conform can be detrimental on their physical and emotional health in the long run, especially those in the puberty stretch.

DO you think this is healthy for the kids mental growth and development?

Yes, it is very inappropriate for young children to be in beauty pageants as it causes children to get big headed or loose confidence depending whether they win comps or not, for the really young ones they probably don't understand what is happening half the time anyway.

Beatriz Gill a child pageant director and a former child participant, does not allow make-up or snug costumes in her pageants. Beatriz is one of many that have a positive outlook on pageants, she believes that pageants helped her become confident and self-assured. On the other hand, many of the pageants researched did allow excessive make-up, hair and clothing. Some had exceptional qualities like offering awards for all participants. I believe that pageants have a long road before achieving a safe environment for children without introducing them to competition, sexuality and disappointment too early in life.

A beauty pageant or beauty contest, is a competition that mainly focuses on the physical beauty of its contestants, although such contests often incorporate personality, talent, and answers to judges' questions as judged criteria. So whats wrong in it?
