The chorus for reforms amongst states in India is going u !ith a state mo"ing to
amend some la#our related la!s$ %arious reforms are #eing sought from state
go"ernments to e u in"estment sentiments for the state$ While its o"erall
imact is yet to #e assessed& the mo"ement in mar'ets seems to #e in re"i"al
mode for light manufacturing and consumer goods mar'eting going on utic'$
We may not see immediate flo! of in"estments #ut certainly sentiments seems
to #e gearing u$ The in"estors seem to #e demanding more !ith yearning for
land reforms& de"eloment of tourism& agri(mar'et reforms going u$ This is
#ecause entrereneurs are loo'ing to cash in uon oortunities to create
roduct designs rele"ant for the local mar'et and #uild uon #rand "alues for
their o!n roducts and "aluation for the comany$ This is a high otential !ith
managea#le ris' areas$ The reforms sought are to #ring do!n costs for doing
#usiness and loo' to shore u "aluation for any )*A oortunity that may cro
u in future$ The other areas #eing e+amined are rocessed food #rands and
consumtion goods !here cometition may #e lo!$
Also since the manufacturing costs in ,hina seems to #e soaring& the in"estors
!ants to source comonents from other lo! cost destinations in Asia directly
including from ,hina and control design& manufacturing& #randing& distri#ution
and aftersales$ This has #ecome true for -lectronics& -lectricals and other
consumer dura#les$ The esta#lished #rands getting .ittery and maintaining
relati"e silence in the face of a sle! of launches in /mart mo#ile segment is a
sign of changing trends in the mar'ets$ If a suer hot segment li'e /mart mo#iles
is not #eing contested for& then situation for other segments cannot #e far
different for long$ /trengthening of domestic technical0commercial standards and
certification including enalizing units 1as !ell as u#lic rerimand2 !ho fail to

strengthen consumer courts to #olster confidence of the customers so that they
