Backwaters- The Annual B-School Meet organized by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode concluded on November 12, 2012 amidst much fanfare with a range of events conducted throughout the event. The three day extravaganza which started on November 9 brought together students from across the best management institutes in the country to participate in events ranging from business simulation games, case studies and strategy events.

The first day of Backwaters saw five teams battling it out at the finals of Mbryo, the product innovation marketing strategy case event. This was followed by the finals of Avalamb which saw the finalists presenting to the Kerala State IT Mission representatives how best Adhar can be put to use. The workshop series- Shiksha was a resounding success with 68 participants from various UG colleges in Kerala. The highlight of the day was most certainly The Great Debate on the topic “Privatization reduces corruption” featuring panelists drawn from the industry, media and academia.

An impressive line of events ensued on the second day of the event starting with White Knight-the flagship B-Plan competition of IIM Kozhikode. Team Fit You from Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad bagged the top honours in the event. The invite-only leadership event- Avatar followed soon thereafter which was in turn followed by a hugely successful event- Rural Nirmaan organized in association with NABARD. Dhruv Shah from IIM Bangalore won the first prize in Avatar. The highlight of the day was “Roar for CSK” –an event conceptualized to make students impress the management of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings about the facets of digital marketing. Team Teenpatti from Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chenai emerged victorius in the event. The whiz kids had their time under the sun as well during the event on Mergers and Acquisitions- Clinch the Deal.

The final day of the event started with Rural Roulette- a strategy event on exploring rural markets followed by two more strategy-based events- Bootkamp and Rural Roulette. Corporate major Bisleri was presented with a host of ideas on the possible marketing strategy for Bisleri Vedica during the event on marketing called Ubiqua.

The spot events were immensely popular with the students. Wall Street-the international trade event, a three hour marathon grey cell churner which had 4 member teams engaged in commodity trading across borders. JAM saw the witty tongued participants competing in Queens English. The quizzes kept up the tempo high- Brandaholics- the branding and advertising quiz, Fin-o-mena- the finance quiz and Bizatthlon- the flagship quizzing event of Backwaters, all were a resounding success. The event ended with an interaction between the corporate dignitaries present and the IIMK fraternity to explore newer ways of engagement and mutual growth.[/b]
