B-Plan Project

Description
Please help me with a b-plan project

Jeroo Billimoria was born in Mumbai, India to an accountant and a social worker. Raised in
a family strongly committed to social service, her father's early death caused her to dedicate
herself to social causes.[7] Billimoria received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of
Mumbai (formerly the University of Bombay) in 1986, an M.A.in Social Work from
India's Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1988 and an M.S. in Non-Profit Management from
the New School for Social Research University in New York in 1992. From 1991 to 1999,
she was a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
In 1989 Billimoria travelled for a six months before going back to Tata Institute of Social
Sciences and there becoming an instructor. A number of her graduate students were placed as
social workers in Bombay's shelters. When Billmoria visited them, she found herself drawn to the
children. Out of compassion and concern, she started giving out her home number – to be used in
case of an emergency, but soon she was receiving calls on a daily basis. As she became aware of
the need for an organisation which could co-ordinate the multiple children's agencies in Bombay to
efficiently and quickly contact and assist the children, she tried to persuade these services to work
with each other. After several failed attempts and having found very little enthusiasm for the idea,
she decided to drop her convincing labour.

Instead in 1991, she founded an organisation called Meljol(Coming Together) to bring
together children from diverse background to work, side by side, on projects with tangible
social benefits. This organisation seeks to develop children's citizenship skills by focusing
on their rights and responsibilities and providing them opportunities to contribute positively
to their environment. 'Equal Rights, Opportunities and Respect for all,' forms the basis of
Meljol's philosophy.[9]

Childline India Foundation is a non-government organisation (NGO) in India that operates
a telephone helpline called Childline, for children in distress. It was India's first 24-hour, toll

free, phone outreach service for children .[1] Based in Mumbai, it helps the homeless
children. It also helps the children who are poor and who cannot go to school. It give those
children education. They collect money from people and they use the money to help these
children. Child line number is - 1098. The childline received average two million calls in a
year, most from children wanting to rescued from their place of work. India as per 2011
census of India has over 4.35 million working children between of age of five to 14 years.
The Secretary of the Ministry functions as the chairperson of the Governing Board of the
Foundation.
Child Helpline International (CHI) is a global network of 178 child helplines in 143
countries (as of January 2014).[1] Child helpline is a telecommunication and outreach
service on behalf of children and young people. Childline's approach was to
have volunteers who answered the phone and who would go directly to the child in need.
The volunteers kept a log of the calls. This log would then become very important data for
the creation of child protection policies, thus placing the helplines at the centre of child
protection policy. Child Helpline International's secretariat is based in Amsterdam,
Netherlands. Child Helpline International is a membership based organization with
members from 5 regions: Africa, Americas and The Caribbean, Asia Pacific, Europe,
and Middle East and North Africa. In 2013, Child Helpline International has reached the total
number of 126 million contacts from children and young people in need for care and
protection.[5]

MelJol is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered under the Societies
Registration Act. MelJol was initiated as a field action project of Family and Child Welfare,
Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in December 1991. Since its inception MelJol has
focussed on fostering healthy attitudes in children, creating awareness of the different
needs of children from different backgrounds, and building spirit of confidence and
entrepreneurship in order to create a civil society based on the co-existence and
achievement.
Rooted firmly in the belief that children have rights and that children must participate in
the creation of child-friendly world, MelJol seeks to develop children’s citizenship skills by
focussing on child rights and responsibilities and providing them with opportunities to
contribute positively to the environment. Meljol has been working with children and youth
from socio economic backward regions for the past 20 years, and using the tools of social
and financial education to help them break the cycle of poverty and face life with
confidence. All of MelJol’s work is based on The United Nations Convention on the Rights of
the Child, 1990 (CRC).

When MelJol began work in the rural, tribal and urban areas of India, the first step was to
create child friendly curriculum and develop and design teachers’ manuals to help teachers
to facilitate sessions in the class rooms. MelJol realised the need to form children’s clubs
which are called Aflatoun Clubs to encourage child participation in the activities organised
under this curriculum. Through these clubs and making use of active learning
methodology, the children were introduced to the concepts of personal understanding, self
exploration, child rights and responsibilities, concept of savings and social and financial
entrepreneurship. Experience of implementation of Aflatoun Social and Financial
Programme encouraged children to manage their resources better and start social and
financial micro-enterprises. MelJol seeks to develop a strong sense of citizenship in the
children by focusing on educating them about what they are entitled to, what they can
accomplish with that knowledge and providing them with opportunities to apply that
knowledge.
MelJol seeks to rewrite the face of India’s rural economy while dramatically reinvigorating
the classroom as a space of experience and excitement. It seeks to produce a new
generation of young people who have been readied for the economic mainstream, with
entrepreneurial skills so that they may understand the power of money and the concepts
of risk and reward.

Social and Financial Education is aimed at helping young people think critically, learn about
rights and responsibilities, and gain financial knowledge and skills that will enable them to
achieve their dreams. It also helps them reflect and make sense of the life transitions they
are going through, and how they can best be engaged in the world. Social Education
teaches them to believe in themselves and become responsible citizens by understanding
and being involved in social issues that affect them while Financial Education teaches the
important skills of saving, appropriate spending budgeting, planning and engaging in ageappropriate Social and Financial Enterprises. Children also learn to the optimum and
effective utilization of the resources (financial & Non financial)
Aflatot
The Aflatot programme for children who have not yet entered primary school (usually 3-6
years of age) provides an early childhood education programme that lays the foundation
for this social and financial literacy.
