Refugees are persons fleeing armed conflict or persecution. Their situation is often so perilous and intolerable that they cross national borders to seek safety in nearby countries and thus become internationally recognized as 'refugees' with access to assistance from States, UNHCR, and other organizations. The debate over refugee’s acceptance has been increased and people are lurking out to support refugees and wanted to help them to start a new life with peace and dignity. Icelandic author Bryndis Bjorgvinsdottir wrote a powerful message which inspired the whole country to welcome Syrian refugees into their homes.

When Icelandic government said it would only accept 50 humanitarian refugees, Bjorgvinsdottir launched the Facebook campaign, Syria is Calling. She wrote a powerful letter directly to the to the country's welfare minister said it wanted to show "the government that there exists a will to receive more refugees from Syria".

Her letter had generated a huge impact on the hearts of the people. The letter had been signed by 13,000 people so far and the counting is still on. All of them have poured their hearts out and wanted to welcome Syrian refugees to their home and share the land with them. Single mother Hekla Stefansdottir, who has a six-year-old son, said: "We can take a child in need. I'm a teacher and would teach the child to speak, read and write Icelandic."

The letter has forced the government to change its decision and turned their table towards people’s will. Welfare minister Eyglo Haroardottir told RUV that the government would explore avenues to welcome more humanitarian refugees but would not name a maximum figure for its quota. At a cabinet meeting which took place yesterday, Prime Minister Sigmundur Davio Gunnlaugsson set up a special committee of ministers to discuss issues regarding migrants and how Iceland could respond.

This sets an exemplary for other countries to follow, it is our duty on the basis of humanity to protect the people and share your space with them. They have suffered pain and lived in hunger. They need us and we have to support them during their difficult times. Refugees have been the global issue and we all have to join hands to help them.
