ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE :
The University of Newcastle is committed to the highest possible standards in teaching, learning and research. Their high academic standards, superb recreational facilities, natural surroundings, award-winning buildings and excellent access to the latest technology are all part of the reason why students choose to study at the University of Newcastle.

The University of Newcastle is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in key areas, including engineering and research performance. They are committed to the pursuit of quality and strive to further improve their results in all aspects of higher education.

HISTORY:
The University of Newcastle became an autonomous institution in 1965. Since then, the University has pioneered a series of initiatives and achievements.

Newcastle was one of the first Australian universities to introduce the Master of Business Administration as well as the first integrated Professional Program for Law students.

Problem-based learning, pioneered by Newcastle some 25 years ago, forms the core of their programs in medicine, engineering, architecture, construction management, nursing and law.

CAMPUSES :

Callaghan campus

Ourimbah campus

Port Macquarie campus

Singapore Campus

Renwick college

Callaghan - The Bushland Campus (Newcastle):
What could be called their home campus is at Callaghan, 12 km west of the city of Newcastle. It caters to around 16,000 students. A number of their buildings have won awards for outstanding architecture and for imaginative adherence to ecological design principles. The campus itself is located over a 125 hectare site of natural bushland and their ground staff who maintain it are committed to environmental best practice. They ensure that both the native flora and the vast array of fauna that share the bushland with them are treated with care and respect. That’s why we even have kangaroo crossing signs!

Callaghan is well serviced by both bus and train (there is a railway station adjacent to the campus) and it has excellent access to the freeway.

Ourimbah (Central Coast):
The other main campus is at Ourimbah on the Central Coast, about half way between Newcastle and Sydney. A range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs are offered through the University’s five Faculties - Education & Arts, Science & Information Technology, Business & Law, Engineering & Built Environment and Health.

Like the University’s Callaghan campus, Ourimbah is set in a magnificent natural bushland setting and offers students an ideal environment in which to pursue their studies. Its buildings are all state-of-the-art (the building program began in the 1990s) and as cars are only permitted on its outer roads, it is not only quiet but pedestrian friendly.

The University shares the site with other education partners and the total student population is currently around 4,500 and growing. Most students take either a bus or drive to the campus but there is a train station at Ourimbah, about a 10 minute walk away.

STUDENT COMMUNITY :
The University of Newcastle has a student population of over 26,000, including over 3,500 international students from more than 80 countries studying both on and off-shore in business, engineering, medicine, nursing, science, teaching and technology.

ACCOMMODATION :
They operate the largest single site accommodation complex of any university in Australia. There are close to 1,000 students living on the Callaghan campus in three traditional halls of residence and one new motel style complex. Students also have access to a comprehensive accommodation service including an online accommodation database to make finding suitable housing easier. Additionally, the University provides a homestay service in Newcastle.
