Asian Markets Update by Epic Research

Asian indices opened mostly higher on Thursday, taking cues from their Wall Street peers which recouped losses overnight. South Korean shares underperformed upon resuming trade after an extended holiday weekend.

China’s Shanghai Composite rose 0.29 percent or 6.61 points at 2,324.92. Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.52 percent or 82.68 points at 15,871.46.

Singapore’s Straits Times added 0.23 percent or 7.66 points at 3,346.29. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was flat at 24,722.22.

South Korea’s Seoul Composite was flat at 2,048.16. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted was flat at 9,361.06.
 
Asian equity markets traded mixed on the final trading day of the week, following an uninspiring US lead. Trading was relatively muted, with investors likely to avoid making aggressive bets before a key set of Chinese data over the weekend.

Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng shed 0.32 percent or 79.29 points at 24,583.35. Japan%u2019s Nikkei rose 0.36 percent or 57.80 points at 15,967.

Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was up 0.15 percent or 5.06 points at 3,352.34. China%u2019s Shanghai Composite was flat at 2,309.57.

South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite added 0.32 percent or 6.41 points at 2,040.57. Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted declined 0.68 percent or 63.41 points at 9,259.54.
