Asian Markets Update by Epic Research

Asian stocks started the week with gains on Monday as fears about Portugal’s banking sector receded and as investor attention turned to corporate earnings.

China’s Shanghai Composite was up 0.16 percent or 3.29 points at 2,050.25. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.82 percent or 189.51 points at 23,422.96.

Japan’s Nikkei added 0.35 percent or 52.84 points at 15,216.88. Singapore’s Straits Times was flat at 3,295.52.

South Korea’s Seoul Composite rose 0.52 percent or 10.27 points at 1,999.01. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted jumped 0.27 percent or 25.69 points at 9,521.53.
 
The gains on US stocks overnight helped to boost sentiment in Asia. The Dow rose back above 17,000 on Monday after Citigroup posted a stronger-than-expected quarterly profit.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.58 percent or 134.81 points at 23,481.48. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.85 percent or 129.88 points at 15,426.70.

South Korea’s Seoul Composite jumped 0.84 percent or 16.82 points at 2,010.70. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted added 0.71 percent or 67.39 points at 9,587.69.

Singapore’s Straits Times was flat at 3,291.80. China’s Shanghai Composite was up 0.08 percent or 1.59 points at 2,068.24.

Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was flat at 3,291.80. China%u2019s Shanghai Composite was up 0.08 percent or 1.59 points at 2,068.24.
 
Today Asian Market Update

Indian ADRs ended mixed on Monday.
In the IT space, Infosys shed 1.01 percent at USD 53.67.
Wipro was down 0.66 percent at USD 12.09.
In the banking space, ICICI Bank was up 0.3 percent at USD 47.16.
HDFC Bank added 0.65 percent at USD 46.77.
In the other sectors, Tata Motors advanced 1.06 percent at USD 41.03.
Dr Reddy%u2019s Laboratories declined 1.14 percent at USD 44.19.
 
Asian stocks opened mixed on Wednesday as investors reacted to Janet Yellen%u2019s comments.

China%u2019s second quarter gross domestic product (GDP) was up 2 percent against the estimates of 1.8 percent, QoQ. However, it was up 7.5 percent versus 7.4 percent, YoY.

China%u2019s June Industrial output was up 9.2 percent versus 9 percent, YoY. China%u2019s Shanghai Composite was flat at 2,071.80.

Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng rose 0.24 percent or 55.91 points at 23,515.87. Japan%u2019s Nikkei was up 0.12 percent or 18.10 points at 15,413.26.

Singapore%u2019s Straits Times added 0.24 percent or 7.98 points at 3,299.40. South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite was flat at 2,012.99. Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted shed 0.20 percent or 19.46 points at 9,549.71.
 
Asian equities were mostly higher on Thursday following a record close on the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Japan%u2019s Nikkei advanced 0.35 percent or 53.46 points at 15,432.76. South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite jumped 0.44 percent or 8.86 points at 2,022.34.

Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was flat at 3,305.65. Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng was flat at 23,541.75.

Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted was down 0.51 percent or 48.38 points at 9,436.35. China%u2019s Shanghai Composite shed 0.66 percent or 13.56 points at 2,053.72.
 
Asian stocks declined on Friday after the crash of a passenger plane in Ukraine and a ground offensive in Gaza derailed risk appetite overnight.

South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite declined 0.44 percent or 8.97 points at 2,011.93. Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted fell 0.17 percent or 16.04 points at 9,392.20.

China%u2019s Shanghai Composite was down 0.17 percent or 3.49 points at 2,052.10. Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng shed 0.79 percent or 185.05 points at 23,335.82.

Japan%u2019s Nikkei plunged 1.34 percent or 205.49 points at 15,164.77. Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was down 0.24 percent or 7.99 points at 3,298.90.
