Are You Gaining Experience or Are You Just Getting Experimented ?

“To make knowledge work productive will be the great management task of this century, just as to make manual work productive was the great management task of the last century.”[/i][/b]

- Peter Drucker[/i][/b]

In the age wherein every graduate has ever revolving “kida”[/i] [/i]in one’s mind as to whether I should opt for further higher education or gain experience and then opt for part time/distance MBA or such PG courses, isn’t it a true guys! Many of friends have already jumped into this field of academics and the rest in the corporate world. Now would like to ask such people do they repel their decision that they have taken in their life as in continuing with their studies or stepping into the corporate world.

With whatever plans people drag their careers in whatever and whichever direction many of them hardly try and keep up their dreams of what they had thought of being in the topmost agenda. The ones stepping in the corporate world are crazy behind experience and feel its importance in life while the rest plan after a nap of couple of years together. However both of the steps undertaken are all together different the effect or the consequence of both times will determine. Speaking about experience; it can be taken in any form and the most popular form today or the trend you say is internships. I have seen many people approaching me with a hope of providing internships to them. The contacts that you develop from your experience will be invaluable and will stay with you lifelong. As it is said; in today's incredibly competitive labour markets work experience matters more than ever when it comes to securing that first rung on the ladder.

It's already perceptible that the firms with the highest degree and quality of knowledge work tend to be the fastest-growing and most profitable. Knowledge workers in management roles come up with new strategies. Knowledge workers in R&D and engineering create new products. Knowledge workers in marketing package up products and services in ways that appeal to customers. Without knowledge workers there would be no new products and services, and no growth.

The ones who possess knowledge are expected to communicate with knowledge in their area of expertise these individuals value their ability to act in that manner. The functioning of these knowledge workers is quite systemized like they first evaluate the situation then conduct a research and use their expertise and insights to come to conclusions.

Graduates 'need work experience' says CNBC

They are facing tough times with job applications; they found that students experience to double the changes to getting jobs. As per a survey conducted by CNBC the followed conclusions were drawn “Of the 581 recruiters surveyed for the report, 78% rated employability skills, such as team working, as essential. And of the 80 higher education institutions which responded to the report's survey, 91% thought it likely or highly likely their graduates would acquire five out of the seven desired employability skills while at university.”

I have seen graduates saying that during or after the work experience the employers offer them a contract or encouraged them to apply for a job role. This certainly makes the vision clear stating that the contacts you develop makes you’re recruiting easier than a normal recruitment process to be undergone by a fresher.

At Surrey University 70% of undergraduates participate in "professional training" or workplace-based skills development, usually as the third year of a four-year course.

At Exeter University students are given an "employability matters" handbook every year and across campus - often outside lecture theatres - there is information on employability and careers in every academic building.

The ones who experience internship say that students should have access to opportunities which majority of them lack or aren’t exposed to.

“At work knowledge matters a lot & knowledge determines the quality of the person. If a person has got 10 years of experience in accounts and if he doesn’t know what is contingent liability then 10 years of exp is nothing but waste in the other case if a person has no experience look as freshers if they have good knowledge into any subject company can easily pick them up”

Vijay Birajdar

From the above comment it is clear no matter what knowledge is essential because on its sole strength I can say that you can conquer anything in this world. Rather just experience or just knowledge won’t sync with each other a soothing combination of both is needed. Both basic knowledge from books and new discovery from experience are important.

Books hold all knowledge gained by previous generations and the recent you can gain it by way of your real life experiences at work or in your college although the knowledge from experience helps us as much as those from books.
