Are part time MBA worth the effort?

Part time MBAs have been launched by almost all Management Institutes including IIMs. In India (unlike west), there is a general aversion towards the word 'part-time'. Do you think a part time MBA from IIMs will improve the perception of 'part time' in the market?

It would surely help in brand building when IIMs come into the picture
 
Another name Part time MBA is "Executive MBA" , so if its just the word part time then it be covered up with fancy words.

Basically Executive MBA is for Executives who cannot afford to leave their jobs for pursuing MBA. The perception of Executive MBA will definitely change to something welcomed by professionals and we can already see that happening. If you want to replace it with a full time MBA though, that would take a good amount of time to happen.
 
No its not...its for people who are already at a high management position not for fresh people....
 
As far as your intention is to learn theories, part time MBA is good option.

Do not bank on part time degree if you are looking for placement or some insight from practice..
 
I am from IIM, and I know that the experience of late-night projects, organising 3 day events, weekly parties, national level competitions etc. add more value to the MBA experience than the 4 hour classes that u attend each day. The same cannot be replicated in a part-time course, though it can give u a brand name of MBA/IIM but not the skills or attitude.

I think once you have taken up a job, its at par with the IIM late night projects etc pressure. Executive MBA would add finesse to a person with work experience. It is good value addition for people with work ex.

I believe that part time MBA is worth doing.. as part time MBA from Mumbai University requires 2 years of full time Work Experience and it gives us more exposure towards industrial analysis and also, since we have certain projects for MBA's, it becomes easier to have ready contacts for part timers and regarding salary, a person would simultaneously get a growth in terms of salary he fulfills the criteria of his work performance.

if you are a fresher or with 2 to 3 yrs of work exp, i suggest to go for full time than part time. Part time will be helpful to those, who are already at higher position and waiting for the promotion to managerial level
 
Part time MBA can not be compared with full time MBA. But its definitely useful for those who don't have time due to their full time job.
Pursuing part time MBA from IIM will get a brand name on your certificate but you can never get the same experience and knowledge as in full time MBA.
 
I guess it is....with so many part time MBA courses coming up , especially with the Premier B colleges, I'm sure it must be for good reason !! :SugarwareZ-096:
 
part time MBAs are over rated and too hectic. Go for full time.

The are also online Coures which is as good as full time management.
 
I wonder why there is a general aversion towards part time MBA's. As a matter of fact part timers work twice as hard as full timers and are capable multi-taskers which most full timers cannot adopt to. I think the think tank at the HR level needs to change because thee faculty is at times better for part timers than full timers, am an ex- JBIMS student. The next generation which is people like u need to bring about this change.

According to me they are definitely more worth simply from the experience perspective
