Cricket is not our national game, but it is celebrated as a festival, thanks to our Board, Government, sponsors and the media.
People don't know how to play other sports or what the rules of other games are. But they are well aware with cricket.

So what do you people have to say about it.

Yes, I think really people are obsessed about cricket in our country. A number of reasons are responsible for that. Earlier, cricketers were not getting that much money though but still fame was definitely there. In those times probably hockey was also taken seriously. But then hockey was eaten up due to the administration (as we all know). Eventually, cricket has been managed well and now has become a great business.. Moreover we have people like Sachin who are the Gods of the game. So, definitely it is worshipped as a religion now..
It now has become a source of not only fame but lots and lots of money also. I truly believe that a lot of credit to this goes to the very fine management in the cricket board. Moreover, the idea of 20-20 has completely revolutionised the game and made it completely interesting; even for those who earlier didn't like to watch cricket...

Yes.. and same is the case with other country..
But there is some kind of balance bar (in other country) which is skewed but allow other sports to grow..
But in our country no balance.

It is not balanced but don't you think that we only are responsible for that. We, the people of India are only responsible for the kind of response a sport gets. Even if we win a world cup in some other sport apart from cricket, it is not seen as a great achievement, why ??? While in cricket, even if we win a series, it is celebrated like a grand success, why so ?? Why this disparity is there amongst people and their thinking ???? This must change if balance has to be there....[/B]

Moreover, some people say that in India cricket is a religion because we have Gods of cricket here such as Sachin Tendulkar the great, who is still running high towards crossing all the world records and getting them done in their name. But, may be even people do not know that even in the other games India has given Gods, its just our ignorance that we do not know about it. Dhyanchand is the God of hockey from India, Vishwanathan Anand is the God of chess from India and many more. So, we just need to be more aware to get the things worked out here....

Yes it is a fact that majority of people in India can't afford to go and those who can probably save their time and money for the India games. Secondly that is not the only reason, there is a good section of people who will not go to the games even if they could afford it for the simple reason that it is not a good experience. And my last and main point is just because Indians don't go to the stadium for neutral games does not mean they do not love the sport.I grew up in a family of sports loving people and where we followed almost every sport Tennis, TT, Basketball, Badminton heck even the Olympics where Indians suck royally.I remember very well how well the kids in my neighbourhood knew the soccer players from europe and Brazil, infact Brazil is the unofficial home team of Indian soccer fans.

I completely agree that cricket is overshadowing other INDIAN sports. I just wanted to say that all games are equal.
