what is anxiety?
Feeling anxious is being worried about how you are going to deal with an upcoming event while at the same time feeling a little helpless.
Anxiety is like any other emotion, it is a signal from your mind to take action. If you feel anxious because you have a presentation tomorrow, this may drive you to prepare for it well.Some people get worried about the future, they feel they are not in control of their lives and so keep thinking of what are they going to do next. They may even not be able to sleep because of the continues thinking about the future.

Feeling anxious is sometimes associated with lack of confidence because the person feels that he is hopeless and out of control. Feeling anxious does not necessarily mean that there is a problem, sometimes it is only your perception of the external stimulus that made you anxious.

Symptoms of anxiety include: increased heart rate, irritability, muscle tension, lack of concentration, being restless and sweating. An anxiety problem does not mean that you are weak or that you have a personality problem. It is just a normal process that is there to help you. The problem is when anxiety turns into a disorder. Some of the different forms anxiety disorders may take are:
- Panic disorder: experiencing sudden strong anxiety attacks
- Agoraphobia: fear of being in an embarrassing situation where it is hard to escape
- Social phobia: fear of being watched, or being subject to attention
- Generalized anxiety disorder: ongoing general anxiety, tension and excessive worrying about the future
