An MBA in Recession time: Does it make sense?

Executive Education programs are counter cyclical meaning now is when everyone is doing it. Probably best to be ready for when things pick up.

well recesssion is not going to stay long and if one enrolls at this time the effects of recession might not be dere aftr 2 yrs and besides it is a good oppurtunity to start one's own business and innovation is currently the buzzword in the industry

Ya,definitely MBA in recession time makes sense.

Firstly What does an MBA make........a manager and manager work is to get the things done. In recession, there is great opportunity to manage the empolyees to keep the cost as less as possible
.....Only managers can use recession as opporunity and also in this time when the jobs are losi
ng managers can motivate the employees so that they perform to their best.

As jobs are losing and pays are decreasing so there is good opportunity for
employees to go for manahgement education and then take the important skills as people are doing it

i think it does
as such job market is not good
you spend two years productively
Plus by the time you pass out to the job market again the scenario would be better and on a growth

I believe it does make sense, an MBA helps you aim for a better kind of job, probably with more money than a non-managerial kind of job. Plus, companies do seek people with MBA for "better" kinds of jobs

the present job market is not a very re-assuring scenario for most students. i think it makes sense to do an MBA and cum back to working when the job scenario would be much better than now

mba is a degree which provide u a plateform for entering in to management field...... so whether recession is ther or not one must has to do mba....

It is the best option for a just turned graduate bcoz in the mean time industries gets back on track in the mean time one can learn the management tricks and when he/she will b out with a MBA degree der will be better opportunities and also better pay package

well, I guess that it's a gud time to get in to an MBA at this point in time definitely after good research about MBA colleges esp. if you are planning to do it from US.....looking at the cost factor!! May be one can look at gud colleges in India like ISB, or Executive courses in IIM's!!

an mba in recession time do not make sense for the people having placement this year....but people joining this year will see good market with less people enrolled for the course...

MBA is certainly not a tool to get good placements, it should be considered as an investment for our own learning and knowledge enhancement purpose. Hence, it will be a bit unfair to judge the timing of doing a MBA taking the current market trends into consideration.

Although practically speaking, since MBA courses these days require such high investments, one is forced to think of the ROI.

Therefore more than recession or investment, 'doing an MBA' decision depends on how a person perceives the ROI, in form of learning or in form of good placements.

Anyhow, the recession is not permanent, the world market is bound to recover any time soon.

Cheers....... best of luck

Everbosy has to accept that MBAs also got effected due to this ression, but beeing an MBA if we cant manage this situation we are worth less. If you are good at analysing the past and present you can find good number of opportunities to suvive and grow.

An MBA in recession time actually may not lead to much improvement in terms of profile, remuneration etc in short run as the people presently doing MBA are experiencing. But going by the layoff statistics,it might be a better option after all to invest in yourself rather than finding low paying jobs provided you have got some dough. In long term perspective,an MBA would always yield good returns in terms of roles and packages.Think it out.

i agree with ornthordarson......recession can b a great learning time for people especially in the financial sector
